True friends
Friends are like sisters and brothers to us. They stick with us at school. If you go to school and make friends with someone that thinks about you a lot, if you leave that school your friend will be very sad. If your friend leaves you, you will feel the same. If you don’t want to hurt your friends’ feelings you must never leave them. That is what my heart says.

An adventure
One day, my mother and I were walking on the road. I was walking fast, so my mother said, “Stop!” I didn’t listen and I went even faster.
I was walking so fast that I couldn’t stop. When I was walking near the temple suddenly, a big dog came out of the temple. I fell on top of the dog and because I was very scared I thought that it was my mother and started to hug the dog.

The dog was more scared than I was and it ran away leaving me on the ground. My mother was laughing. She picked me up and said that was what happened to girls who didn’t listen to what they were told!

My hobby
A hobby is a leisure activity done regularly for pleasure. People all around the world have hobbies. They spend their leisure time doing their different hobbies. It is a good habit for mental well being.
Most people have one hobby but my hobby sometimes changes. Firstly I used to collect stamps, then I collected articles and then pebbles. Later it was reading books and at last I found a good hobby.
It is writing essays to the Funday Times magazine and sending answers for competitions. I do it when I am bored and also in my leisure time. I read articles and books and then write the ideas I read. I also participate in the Funday Times competitions. It is a fun activity to do. Hope you also have a fun, enjoyable activity!

I am a blind child
When I was young, I got terribly ill.
So ill, that the doctors told my parents that I would not live long. But somehow
I didn’t die, instead I got blind.

Being blind isn’t as easy as it sounds. I can’t see anything, only darkness. I cannot see any beautiful colours everyone talks about. The only colour that I’ve seen is black, which means darkness. I cannot move properly without somebody’s help. I’m not allowed to do any sport for my safety. Sometimes it’s really tiring to sit in one place for a long time. Sometimes my friends speak to me, but sometimes it’s hard to understand what they’re saying because I’ve never seen some things they talk about.

But just because I can’t see it doesn’t mean that I can’t hear, feel or speak. I can speak like any other child. I try my best to imagine what things are like by feeling the surface of them. It makes it easier to understand how to use them.
Day by day I’m getting used to my blindness. I still wish that one day I’ll be able to see this beautiful world with my eyes. I thank everybody who helped and supported me to make my dreams come true. My ambition is to help other blind children to live happy and normal lives.

Village life vs City life
My village is Ingiriya. I’m wondering whether the village life or the city life is better. In the village there is greenery but in the city there is less greenery. There are buildings and many houses and there is smoke in the city. There exists nature and peace in a village.
The villages are spacious, not like the city. Trees are being cut to make more buildings and houses which results in soil erosion as well as warm environment. I feel sad when I see people cutting down trees. Once when we were going to school in our car, I saw more than five lorries having trunks of trees for furniture I believe. There is a lot of pollution in the city.
It is very misty and cold during the mornings in the village. The birds which are in the surroundings in our house are enormous. There are streams and rivers which the villagers can enjoy. I go to school in the city.
One thing I hate in the city is the traffic jams and the indisciplined drivers whereas on the roads in front of my house is mostly free from vehicles and travels fast. When I compare the city and the village,
I prefer the village as a better place.

Road accidents
Many road accidents are taking place in our country daily. Accidents mostly occur due to the carelessness of the drivers and the pedestrians. Some drivers are drunk and reckless while they are driving the vehicles. It’s not only the fault of the drivers but, it is the fault of the pedestrians too.
When the pedestrians are crossing they should cross on the pedestrian line but some don’t. Pedestrians are also blamed for the cause of the accidents because they chat while they are walking on the road and are careless. The main reason for road accidents is drivers compete with each other and ignore the rules and regulations. Due to accidents many people die and become permanently disabled. The best way to reduce road accidents in our country is by obeying the rules and regulations.

My ambition
My ambition is to be the best ballerina in the world. I started doing ballet when I was nine years old. There was a ballet class already conducted in our school. The ballet teacher was Mrs. Moshika.
After school one Tuesday afternoon, my father was late to pick me up. Suddenly I heard some music. I slowly went to search what it was. I saw some of my friends dancing on their tiptoes in the main hall.
Quickly I fell in love with it. By then my father had come and I didn’t know
as I was glued to the ballet dance.
My father had searched for me everywhere. Anyhow I didn’t want to miss the scene. But security uncle came and therefore I had to leave.
My father asked, “Where were you?” And I didn’t tell the truth.
I said, “I was in my classroom.”
On the next Tuesday morning I took a pair of jeans and went to school. When school was over I thought my father will be late that day too, so I wore my jeans and went to the ballet class.
The ballet teacher didn’t notice me as a new student and I could wonderfully manage the first position of ballet on the first day. Suddenly a loud knock came on the door. It was my father. I thought he will surely shout at me. Surprisingly he didn’t. Then Mrs. Moshika said that it was all for that day and my first ballet lesson was over. Now I am continuously following my ballet lessons under the guidance of Mrs. Moshika.
