Planet Mars
The planet which I like the most is the Planet Mars. The reason is because of the two houses in our sportsmeet,
I am in Mars.  The atmosphere on Mars is much thinner than on Earth. On this planet we can see red sand. The largest volcano on Mars is called Olympus Mons. It is 23km high. In 1976, two Viking spacecrafts reached Mars.

Some scientists believe that there should be water on Planet Mars.
In 1997, the ‘Pathfinder’ probe was sent to Mars to search the sand on Mars.
Mars has two small moons. There have been many spacecrafts sent to find information about Mars but very few of them were successful in finding information correctly. Mars is also known as the ‘Red Planet’. We can see the Planet Mars from our naked eye. This planet gives out a bright red colour.
I hope scientists can find more information about the Planet Mars.

My mother
A lady — a lady with a heart,
Which is a fabulous art,
Which is filled with love,
And more beautiful than a dove.

An angel — who never gets mad,
When I’ve done something bad,
With a calm nature and a peaceful smile,
Whose eyes never flow like the River Nile.

She’s a guide, a support to my life,
Who is always bright and sharper than a knife,
Oh Mother – dearest darling,
Without you, would I be living?

Facts of trees

Trees are a part of our life. They are living things. They sense and feel like we do. That is why trees give us the food that we eat. Trees give us useful things like rain and water. Trees give us fresh air to breathe. Trees give us oil, cotton, rubber and medicine.
We should not destroy trees.

Trees need to be saved. We must take care of trees and we must protect and love trees.

An enjoyable day
One weekend, my cousins
Sajjad and Aqeel came to spend the day with us. My brother and I played with them. Then Daddy came downstairs and said he would take us to the zoo. We all said,
“Hurrah!” and jumped up.
Daddy bought tickets for all of us to enter. There were large, small and colourful fish. It was very nice to see them swimming in the glass tanks. Then we saw the snakes.
My cousins were not at all scared. They tapped the glass tank to make them move. My brother and I were very scared. I couldn’t even look at it.
When we went further into the zoo, we saw monkeys, lions, elephants, zebras and giraffes.
When my cousins saw the lion,
they made a roaring sound and
oh gosh! It roared back! When we saw the monkeys my grandmother waved at them and to our surprise they waved back!
After refreshing ourselves with short-eats and ice-cream, we decided to go home. On the way we passed the park and were keen to go there so Daddy took us. All of us enjoyed while the elders sat on the benches and watched. On the climbing frame Sajjad imitated the monkey in the zoo and jumped from side to side. It was high fun for all of us. Afterwards we went home happy.

What are outer planets?
The word planet is derived from the Greek word ‘planates’, meaning wanderers. But the planets do not wander in indefinite directions in space. Each has its own fixed path or orbit and period of revolution.
The outer planets are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.
They are very big (sometimes called giant planets) with large satellite families. They are composed mostly of hydrogen, helium, ammonia and methane.

These planets are called Jovian, after Jove, the Greek name for Jupiter, because they resemble Jupiter in many ways. The two largest planets, Jupiter and Saturn send out radiation. Jupiter’s radio waves are so strong that they can be picked up on Earth by radio telescopes. All of them rotate furiously, have dense atmosphere and consist of far lighter elements (contain little iron and rock) than the earth-like or terrestrial inner planets. The Inner planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars.

If I have wings
Do you like to have wings? Yes, I like to have wings. But only birds have wings. It’s a blessing from God for birds to get wings. Birds can fly from one place to another place and eat tasty food. Birds are lucky to have wings.
If I have wings, I would touch the clouds and sky and stars. I will get up early in the morning and sing songs happily. I will fly to Australia and see my cousins and play with them in Australia. And I will go to my uncle’s house in Australia and play with my cute baby brother. And fly to Mount Everest and stay there for a week and come back home again. If I have wings like an angel I will be very happy. I would like to go to heaven.
I love to have wings.

My best friend
I have many friends but Nimesha Sewwandi is the one I like most. We have known each other since we were in Grade 6. She is a tall and fair girl with straight hair. She is known to be cheerful, friendly and hardworking.
Nimesha is kind-hearted and is always willing to help others. She helps me most of the time. Nimesha is an avid reader and an interesting story-teller. Her ambition is to become a writer. As she is very creative, I think she can become a good writer one day. She is usually punctual, but sometimes she is a little absent minded. As she is a good friend I always enjoy her company. I wish her all the best.

My first band show
It was February 28. The time was 5.30 p.m. At the Karapitiya Auditorium we started our ‘Melody of Heartians 2016’ with a choir. We sang lots of melodious songs like ‘Hallelujah’,
‘Kalu Maha Walie’ and Cinderella.
By that time the chief guest and all the distinguished guests lighted the oil lamp. It had the sign of Naadra because our guest performers were Naadro who are a leading percussion band in Sri Lanka.
We played ‘Nivahal Situvili’ from the Sacred Heart Convent Western Band. Then we played a very difficult and very long piece of music, from ‘Sound of Music’. Then there was a guitar item. The Western Band played
‘Duwa Ma Vage’. With it the audience began to be very active. We also played ‘Nalawena Mavuthurule’ and Mission Impossible. Then Naadro perfomed their amazing item. Naadro and we played Dalada together. It was very enjoyable.
After all this, our ‘Melody of Heartians 2016’ came to an end.

My family
My family is a nuclear family. It includes my parents, my sister, my brother and me. My father is the eldest of the family. Our house is full of fun. There is always laughter, shouting fighting etc… The only time the house is quiet is at night when we are all asleep.
The best thing about my family is we never feel lonely. We all take care of each other in one way or the other. My parents drop us at school every day. My mother tells us lovely stories which end with morals. My mother and father love us a lot. They bring us chocolates and presents. My mother helps me with my homework as well as my brother’s homework.
I learn values like sharing, patience, kindness and above all how to love everybody, from my family.
