The Excise Dept.’s Special Operations Unit, Kandy, arrested 11 women and 12 men for allegedly attempting to sell liquor on April 13 and 14.

Raids conducted by Chief Excise Inspector Tissa Gunaratne under the instructions of Assistant Commissioner Gamini Adikari, in Bandarawella, Nuwara Eliya, Kegalle and Mawanella, netted 51 litres of liquor.

The suspects had allegedly confessed to their intent to sell liquor on the days the liquor outlets were ordered closed.
