My principal

The principal of Horizon College International is Mrs. Maryanne Hills. She is one of the most important and intelligent people I have ever seen. She cares about all the students and teachers in the school. Every day she stands near the entrance of the school, greeting every teacher, Horizonite and parent she sees. With her inspiring speeches during assembly she encourages everyone
to do well in the future.

I admire Ms. Hills because she asks the teachers and students whether there are any problems and concerns that they have and she will sort out the issue in any way, while running the school.
On January 21, 2016 HCI along with her students and teachers will be celebrating this special person’s birthday and I am proud to be a part of this celebration. May she have many wonderful years ahead!

The most unforgettable moment in my life
On December 27 we went on a trip to Yala. We were all excited as we hoped to see many animals such as the rare leopard.  We hired an open safari jeep and entered the park at 5.30 a.m. We saw a whole lot of peacocks dancing with their tails spread wide to attract their girlfriends – the peahens. The peahens pretended not to care! We also saw a few crocodiles and wild boar. We were getting a little bored as time passed we kept seeing the same things.

Then we noticed that the jeeps in front of us had stopped. Some of the jeeps tooted their horns loudly and started reversing. Then we saw what the commotion was all about. There was a huge tusker standing right in the middle of the road. He marched towards the jeeps. The jeep drivers tried to move their vehicles back but all the jeeps behind us were blocked.

Now the tusker was walking towards our jeep. Our driver warned us that the elephant might put his head inside looking for food. He asked us to hide all food items; we shoved everything under the seats.  But the elephant knew better. He put his head into the jeep sniffing for food. He nudged me with his tusk sending his trunk into my pocket. This elephant pick-pocket wasn’t going to take ‘No’ for an answer.

He poked his trunk under the seats and found my baby cousin’s milk food, cereal and biscuits. He stuffed it all into his mouth. We were scared but also sad because the elephant would be eating plastic; or could it be that he knew how to remove plastic? Then he moved off when he saw there was no more food in the jeep.

Later the jeep driver told us the elephant’s name was Gemunu and he was a regular highway robber looking for tasty tidbits.
I will never forget what it was like to have an elephant checking my pockets and nudging me with his tusks. It was an experience I will never forget in my life.
