Adele’s album ‘25’ has now sold over 7.44 million copies in the US and continues to top the US album chart. Her album is now the best selling album of the past decade.

Justin Bieber who sacrificed his Christmas No: 1 in the UK for a worthy cause regained the prime position to claim the first No: 1 on the UK singles chart for 2016 ‘Love Yourself’.

The ballad which had been pushed down to No: 2 last week moved with relative ease to regain the No: 1 position it had held for three. Now ‘Love Yourself’ has four non consecutive weeks at the top of UK singles chart.

Meanwhile Bieber’s previous chart topping songs showed no sign of slowing down as they regained ground on the top 10 as ‘Sorry’ moved to 2 and ‘What Do You Mean?’ moved up to 4.

The popularity of the Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Choir No: 1 song ‘A Bridge Over You’ took a post Christmas plunge on the chart as the song dropped dramatically to No: 29.

Damon Albarn the leader of the alternative rock band Blur and the animated group Gorillaz has been awarded the OBE in the Queen’s New Year honours list.

Albarn 47 was honoured for his services to music. He is singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer who spearheaded Blurs hits like ‘Girls & Boys’, Country House’, ‘The Universal’, ‘Charmless Man’, ’Song 2’, and the No: 1 hits ‘Parklife’ and ‘Beetlebum’. For Gorillaz his hits were ‘Clint Eastwood’ ‘DARE’ and ‘Dirrty Harry’.

Shakira has released a new single called ‘Try Everything’. The song is the theme to the animated film Zootopia. Shakira is also voicing the part of Gazelle in the film.

The Disney film is set to hit US cinemas on 4th March. Meanwhile Shakira is also working on a new album which is expected to be out later this year.

As One Direction is now on a hiatus, group member Harry Styles has registered four songs with the American Society of Composers Authors & Publishers (ASCAP).

The songs are ‘Already Home’, ‘Coco’, ‘endlessly’ and ‘5378 Miles’. It is not clear at this stage if the songs will be used by Styles or other artists.

Several artists passed away in the last few days of 2015. Natalie Cole died aged 65 from congestive heart failure on 31st December in California. On 28th December the leader of one of the early heavy metal bands Lemmy Lilmister of Motorhead died aged 70.

He had been diagnosed with terminal cancer a few days earlier after he celebrated his birthday. His death followed another member Phil Taylor in November.

Lemmy formed Motorhead in 1975.Meanwhile a day after Lemmy’s death the surviving members of Motorhead decided to dissolve the band.

Also Guru Josh the artist who had hit song ‘Infinity’ died aged 51 on 28th December at his home in Ibiza apparently from suicide. Josh whose real name was Paul Walden was an exponent of acid house, house and techno music.

The single ‘Infinity’ peaked at No:5 in 1989 and again at No: 3 credited as the Guru Josh Project. He was associated with the music of Seal and Adamski too.
