Signing of 10 MOUs on the cards, including one on cooperation in combating terrorism

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will begin a three day official visit to Sri Lanka tomorrow. His visit follows the official visit undertaken by President Maithripala Sirisena to Pakistan in April last year.

During his visit, Prime Minister Sharif will also hold talks with President Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
He will visit the Dalada Maligawa, the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, the Meera Makkam Mosque and the Jinnah Centre in Kandy during his stay.

During his stay here, the two countries will sign ten MOUs including one concerning cooperation in the exchange of financial intelligence related to money laundering and terrorism financing as well as an agreement for bilateral cooperation between the two countries on prevention and deterrence of money laundering and terrorist financing.

In addition to these, the two countries will sign eight more Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) covering various areas including trade, science and technology, cultural affairs and health, Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister Dr.Harsha De Silva said.

Cabinet has approved the signing of all the ten agreements, he said.

The other agreements to be signed include cooperation in the youth development and cultural fields, exchange of statistical and census data, MoU on science, technology and innovations, MoU between the National Science Foundation in Sri Lanka and the Science Foundation in Pakistan on scientific and technological cooperation, MoU between the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan and Export Development Board of Sri Lanka, Agreement between the two countries on the cooperation in the health sector and MoU between the Institute of Fashion and Design in Pakistan and Gem and Jewellery Research Training Institute of Sri Lanka.
