The Annual General Meeting of the General Council of the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association (SLGGA) was held on September 26, 2015 at the Western Province Aesthetic Resort, Colombo 7. The SLGGA is the largest women’s organization in Sri Lanka. Annually an increasing number of girls and women from all walks of life and from varying economic and social backgrounds join the SLGGA. In March 2017 the SLGGA would be celebrating its centenary – 100 years of empowering girls and women. The official centenary logo of the SLGGA, was also unveiled.

The Chief Guest at the Annual General Meeting was Ms. Dilani Alagaratnam, President – Human Resources, Legal & Secretarial, Corporate Communications, Sustainability & Enterprise Risk Management, and Group Sourcing functions, John Keells Foundation.

Ms. Alagaratnam’s speech focused on gender based violence and child abuse in Sri Lanka. She stressed that it is organizations like the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association which is nationally recognized as a lead organization for girls and women that should take the initiative in endeavouring to eradicate or stem the increase of gender based violence and child abuse.

The programme for the day included the presentation of the annual report which covered national and international events and activities at which Little Friends, Girl Guides, Senior Guides and the Differently Abled Guides participated.
The vote of thanks at the AGM was given in Sinhala, Tamil and English by three ten year old Little Friends who impressed all those at the AGM with their presentation.
