A poem about trees

Trees can be short, they can be tall,
Whatever kind, I like them all.
They give us oxygen, and give us air,
We give them love and care
I take care of each, like our own trees,
When they’re a seedling, apples to pineapples,
With their leaves and brown trunk,
We know that trees are not junk,
They need water, soil, sunlight and space,
As we give them day and night.

Food
There are many kinds of food around us. We take some from animals and some from plants. There are three types of food. They are energetic food, body building food and protective food.

Rice, wheat, and potatoes are some examples for energetic food. They give us energy. Eggs, meat, cheese and butter are examples for body building food and fruits, vegetables and nuts are protective food. Body building food make us strong and also protective food are so important to our health and they are nutritious.

There are different kinds of food. Some make us strong and some make us healthy. We should not take dirty food in shops. So remember to be careful when taking food from shops. Everybody must respect food.

Rainy days
I love rainy days because they are very fresh and cool. During rainy days I enjoy the rain drops. I make paper boats and sail them in the rain water outside.
But sometimes I feel afraid of thunder and lightning. When it is thundering my mother never allows me to watch TV, so I sleep well.
I love rainy days because I can hold my umbrella when going out.

The newspaper
There are many ways to obtain news such as the electronic media, radio, email, Twitter and Internet. Newspaper is an informative and educational mass media.
The word NEWS stands for
(N) North, (E) East, (W) West, and (S) South. The newspaper has an interesting history. The first newspaper was delivered in the
10th century in Italy.
Not only elders, we young ones too should read newspapers because by reading newspapers we get a lot of information on a variety of subjects. For young ones there are quiz competitions and many more competitions in the Sunday Times.
So I thank you Funday Times for giving me such opportunities such as the Christmas Carnival which I had the good fortune to participate, learn and enjoy.

Year 2050
Year 2050, what kind of year would it be? It will be a great year for all the people. My friends will have good jobs and they will go to other countries. The technology will improve a lot. There will be many inventors and they will invent many things. We will have robots as our servants. They will do everything that we command them.
People will travel through time and they will be able to travel in the sky and inside the oceans. Some people will live in Mars. Children will not write in books, they will write notes in tabs. There will be no teachers to teach us, the robots will teach children. There will be only robots and their parts to sell in shops.
People will not understand the answer for their work from the nature. Nature will get angry with the humans. There will be earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis. But until that happens the people will stay like puppets and it will be the last few moments of every living thing in the world.
In 2050, there will be a lot of things to be happy as well as there will be some reasons to be sad. But I am waiting eagerly to face 2050.

If I could be any age…

If I could be any age at all… I would like to go back to my pre-school days.
Those were days where school was just about having fun. I did not have a lot of homework and also I did not have to wake up so early.
Learning was so much fun those days because I remember my teacher – Aunty Dilhani used to let me play if I did not want to do my ‘scribbling’.
But now, it’s not like that… I’m stuck in class learning… copying down… listening… to some (a few) boring subjects.
Then there is the school bag –
I remember a school bag which had only a napkin and a lunch box. Now the bag
I carry, Phew!… Even my mom says it’s too heavy! But what’s to be done?
I have to take all the books according to the time-table – or stay out of our
class – as a punishment.
Even though it would be great to go back to being around four years old, I am happy being 10+ as I am still the ‘baby’ in my home and as such still enjoy certain privileges.

Good Manners

Good manners are very important to us.
We have to learn good manners, to live a better life. There are many kinds of manners when we eat, play and talk.
When we eat, we should not talk. We have to chew our food well, eat fresh vegetables and fruits. These are the good habits we should follow while eating.
When we go to a place we have to behave well. We must not go to some places without our parents. We have to respect our parents. When parents, teachers and other people are talking, we have to say “excuse me”, and then talk.
When we play we mustn’t push others.
We have to play together and we must not get angry with others when we play. We mustn’t laugh at others and we have to help others. When someone slips from the see-saw, we have to help them.
We have to follow good manners. Then we will be better citizens of Mother Lanka.

My favourite storybooks
Usually almost every child has their favourite storybook. But I like so many storybooks that I simply cannot choose. Nearly all my favourite storybooks are written by Enid Blyton but there are other stories I like, written by other authors as well.

‘The Famous Five’, ‘The Secret Seven’, ‘The Five Find-Outers’, ‘The Naughtiest Girl at School’, ‘The Family at Red-Roofs’, ‘Six Cousins at Mistletoe farm’, ‘Those Dreadful Children’, ‘The Enchanted Wood’, ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’, ‘The Folk of the Faraway Tree’, ‘The Adventures of the Wishing Chair’, ‘The Twins at St. Clare’s’, ‘Mr. Pink Whistle’, ‘Mr. Meddle’s Muddles’ and ‘The Adventurous Four’ are some of my favourites. I also like ‘Black Beauty’ by Anna Sewell and ‘The Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ by Jeff Kinney and I love stories written by Charles Dickens and Roald Dahl.

I always keep wondering what stories I might start liking next! I haven’t read half the books I’d like to. I guess you now have a pretty good idea of why I don’t have one favourite book. Well, I suppose I can’t help it!

My mother
My mother’s name is M. I. KhairulDawluth. She is 44 years old. She is a dress designer. She is fair and beautiful. She has short hair. She is very kind to me. I am her only child.

She likes to eat healthy food. She is very religious. She teaches me my school lessons. She always advises me to be with good qualities such as politeness, truthfulness and many more. She teaches me happily. She will always try to make me happy by cooking tasty food or buying me things.

Also if I have done any mistake she will punish me so that I will do in the right path. But I never get angry with her. She is the biggest part of my life. I share with her all my good, bad and happy moods. She is honest. She is a hard-worker in my education. She wants to make me a useful and kind-hearted person in society.

I will make her very happy and look after her when I grow up. I will be very thankful to her. I love my mother very much. May Allah Bless Her!
