Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz will be visiting Sri Lanka in the first week of January 2016 following the visit to Islamabad by Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena earlier this year. The announcement was made by the visiting Pakistani Commerce Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan at a reception in Colombo on Tuesday night at which several Sri Lankan ministers were present.

Mr. Khan said he met Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe also on Tuesday where bilateral and trade issues were discussed at length. The two countries held trade talks on November 11 at the Kingsbury hotel with the Sri Lankan delegation being led by Commerce Minister Rishard Bathiudeen.

In a media release issued by Sri Lanka’s Commerce Ministry on the talks, the visiting minister was quoted as saying that with the Pakistan Prime Minister’s scheduled visit to Colombo, “Minister Bathiudeen and I have lots of work in the few weeks left till his visit to ensure to our leaderships that we can offer substantive steps to formalise and sign during Prime Minister Shariff’s visit. The coming 8-10 weeks therefore are very challenging and exciting for our bilateral trade”.
