Why I like my school

Our school is a new school built in 2000. We have classes from Grade One to Twelve. It is an English medium school. The school colours are maroon and white. I like my school very much. In our school there are many dedicated teachers. Our principal is Dr. Nanayakkara. We learn lots of subjects. The behaviour of the children in our school is very good. They are very obedient. We take part in sports. We have annual sportmeets, concerts and competitions. On poya days we observe sil.

There are flower beds arranged nicely. There is a big swimming pool in our school. There are lots of birds near the pond. Sometimes we feed the birds. The nursery classes are beautifully decorated and attractive because the nursery children have made many beautiful decorations. There is a garden near the nursery. We water the school garden every day. There are many jasmine flowers in the garden.

Unlike other schools, our school is away from the city. We get lots of fresh air. We are close to nature. That’s why I like my school. We keep our school clean. There are many different Lord Buddha statues.  Our school motto is ‘Proceed in search of excellence’. I hope all the children follow this motto and become good citizens of Sri Lanka.

My best friend is Yewan Timodh Vitharana. He is nine years old. His birthday is on November 24. His favourite colour is blue. He is a Buddhist.
He has a brother named Nuhan Imodh Vitharana. He is a student of my former school. When I was at my former school we used to play together every day with a few other friends.
We also helped each other in our studies.
Although I am now in another school, I have not forgotten my best friend.

The Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang explosion is how scientists think that the world was created some 15 billion years ago. At first there was a tiny hot ball which was smaller than an atom. Then this hot ball got cooler and got bigger to the size of a football. Then the forces inside swelled up and made a huge explosion which made the basic forces such as electricity and gravity.
At first there were no atoms. Instead there were quarks which were smaller than atoms. After a split second these quarks fused with  each other and formed hydrogen atoms.
They combined together to make helium atoms.
These atoms had dark holes inside them and after millions of years there formed dust clouds in the universe. About 300 million years later the stars and galaxies were formed in the universe.

My class teacher

I respect all the teachers. Of them, my class teacher Mrs. Nadeeka is special. She is a person who helps everybody to get knowledge and she always stands beside the students when they have problems.
You guided me when I was lost. You supported me when I was weak. You have enlightened me all throughout. Today I am what I am just because of you my teacher.
How wonderful you are.
I thought that learning was a difficult thing but you explained all the lessons to me. Now I have the confidence to stand.
I thank you for all this and I wish you a Happy Teachers Day!

My little princess

My little princess is my sweet little sister. Her name is Zainab. She was born on September 26 at Lanka Hospital.
First, it was so hard for me to accept that my mother got a baby girl because I was expecting a little brother to play with me. But when my father showed me her picture I was so surprised because she was so cute. I went to the hospital and I was very happy to see my little sister. She is very fair and cute.
She is our little angel.
My sister and I love her so much. We will take care of our little princess carefully.

Elephant
The elephant is the biggest animal in the forest. There are two kinds of elephants in the world. They are the Asian elephants and the African elephants. Out of these two kinds of elephants, the Asian elephant is beautiful.
Wild elephants can be tamed. The tamed elephants are very helpful to man. The elephants take an important place in processions. The elephant which takes the casket in the Esala Perahera is very sacred. The elephant eats leaves and fruits of trees.
There is an orphanage
for elephants in Pinnawala,
Sri Lanka.

If I become a farmer
If I become a farmer I would own a hundred acres of land. I will separate the land into portions to grow different kinds of crops and do cattle breeding. In one of the portions, I’ll grow paddy and in other portions I’ll grow all kinds of vegetables
and fruits. I hope to provide them with enough manure, water and sunlight.
I’ll look after them well.

Later, I’ll be getting a good harvest.
Then I can sell them at a good price.
This will give me a big income and I can use the same revenue to renovate my farm and plantation again. Then I can make my plantation bigger and export to other countries.

Another big thing I would do is breeding animals. I can breed goats, cows, hens, sheep etc. Then I can get milk products, eggs, wool from them. I will build a house and store all the necessary things including gardening tools and seeds that I want.
I will build a guest house for people to spend their holidays and earn a rent from that. Being a farmer is a great service to my country.

A day in the life of my pet
My pet is a dog name Rocky. He is a gift from my father. Every day, when I walk to school, he comes with me. He is very lovely.
One day, when we walked to school, there were three street dogs crossing our way. When they saw us they all came to us and I was frightened. Suddenly, Rocky jumped in front of me and growled at them. I couldn’t think what to do. I cried to Rocky not to fight with them. But he didn’t.

He jumped on one. Suddenly, I took small stones and hit the other two. One stone shot on one’s head and he ran away.
Soon the other dog jumped on Rocky. They rolled and groaned. I shot another big stone at them. They ran away groaning. I went to Rocky and I saw that he was injured.

I took him and ran home. Mother gave a call to the doctor. He came soon. He gave an injection and put medicine to the wounds. Finally, doctor said that it will get well soon. I stayed with Rocky the whole day. He recovered soon. I think it was a memorable day for Rocky.

Hobbies
A hobby is something we do during our leisure time. Reading, collecting stamps, watching TV, gardening, playing musical instruments, photography, travelling etc., are some fo the hobbies done by children.

Reading is a very useful hobby which gives us knowledge and enjoyment. A child who reads books, newspapers and magazines can improve his or her language ability. It makes the child a good speaker and writer. Stamp collecting is a very good way of knowing about the world around us. It gives a knowledge about countries and special events.

Watching TV is enjoyed by many children. Documentaries about historical places and general knowledge programmes are enjoyed by the young and old.  Playing musical instruments enables a child to improve his aesthetic talents. Travelling is a good way to relax our mind and body. Visiting places with religious and historical interest gives us knowledge.
Engaging in a hobby gives relaxation to the mind and body. It also makes us creative in our life.
