Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) is to undergo another transformation to regain market leadership while capitalising on new opportunities created by advancements in the Information Communication Technology (ICT).
The organisational structure of SLT will be re-aligned to function as centres of excellence in marketing, planning, sales and operations.

Issuing a circular, No 40 of 2015 (a copy of which is in the possession of Business Times), Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) Dileepa Wijesundera said that an increased focus on delivering a great customer experience and further improving the efficiency of operations are essential for increasing company revenue and managing operational costs.

According to the new group level organisational structure of the SLT, 12 chief officers have been re-assigned to handle administrative, business, and legal, finance, human resources, information, marketing planning, net work, regional, and sales functions while four deputy chief officers were appointed to oversee corporate programme, sales support and net work functions.

Two General Managers have been entrusted with the task of handling information security and legal divisions.
The regional operations of the SLT have been re-organized with immediate effect in accordance with the circular no 41/2015.
A new organisational structure for the net work group and the planning group has also been introduced.

The new re-organisation process has been introduced with effect from September 23 and was aimed at increasing effectiveness of the institution in implementing its strategies and the SLT’s improved focus is to become the undisputed leader in the market, according to new CEO Dileepa Wijesundera.

In 2007, a SLT initiated Company Transformation Programme was launched. The consulting arm of British Telecom (BT) was appointed as the consultant who identified the key issues SLT face for its future survival and to retain its position SLT as the undisputed leader in the market.

BT had provided high level solutions and detailed recommendations to re-structure the SLT and it was implemented partly by the previous SLT management on the directions of the then CEO Greg Young. A sum of around Rs, 1000 million has been spent on BT Consultancy for nearly three year period.
