Dareeju and Dimuth best at Gympo

The fifth Sappers 4×4 Gympo 2015 organised by Corp of Sri Lanka Engineers of Sri Lanka Army with collaboration with Four Wheel Drive Club (FWDC) and Sri Lanka Motor Cycle Riders Association was held at dual track at Sappers Off Road Arena in Embilipitiya. This was the grand finale of FWDC 4×4 Championship and the motor bike races was eye catching for over 5000 crowd gathered for witness the event with thrill and excitement.

Chaminda Dareeju and Dimuthu Fernando were the driver and co-driver of the winner Extreme Over 3000cc while Sam Samarasinghe and Dhanushka Suraweera were runners-up. Russel Brinsmead and Warner Oorloff finished at third. Suresh Chaturanga and Ravindra Sanjeewa were the combination of driver and co-driver of the winner Extreme Under 3000cc while Francis Khoo and Amal Wickramaarachchi were runners-up. Indika Sanjaya and Navin Marapana finished behind at third. Suresh Chaturanga and Ravindra Sanjeewa won the overall team championship of this category. The 4×4 event was restricted to Extreme class vehicles where 14 top teams from Sri Lanka and four foreign teams — two from Malaysia and a team each from Australia and India battled it out.

Over 100 riders participated for the 12 MX bicycle events in the Sappers 4×4 where Ishan Dassanayake took top honours while winning the Champion Rider award of the event. Dassanayake was the winner of Racing up to 125cc 2 stroke and Jacques Gunawardena and Evon Buddika Silva became runner-up and second runner-up respectively. Dasanayake also won the Racing up to 125cc to 250cc 4 stroke class while Gunawardena took the second place. Evon Gurusinghe finished at third. Buddhike Silva won the Racing up to 125cc 2 stroke event with Sameera Premarathne finishing at second and Ushan Silva coming in behind at third. Rajeeve Babujee won the Racing up to 85cc Under-16 first race while the second race was won by D.M.D. Kalhara. Buddhika Sandakelum who was placed second at both races went on to win the Racing up to 85cc Under-13 ahead of Amendra Thanthirige and Rumash de Silva.

Evon Gurusinghe won both races of the Streel Trail up to 250cc while Sameera Premarathne gave a good fight, only to finish second at both occasions. Akila Samath finished at third in the first race while Madura Pieris finished third in the second race. Sameera Premarathne, Buddhika Kasun Silva and Madura Peiris finished first, second and third respectively in the Street Trail up to 125cc event. The Kids first race for up to 50cc Under-10 class was won by Abishek Bandara while Gagana Fernando and Sadeepa Oshada finished behind at second and third. Demitha Jayawardena won the second race of the category ahead of Nimna Abishek and Gagana Fernando. Ishan Dasanayake was the champion rider of the GYMPO 2015 MX event.
