At least four persons including a pregnant woman suffered serious injuries when two groups with opposing political affiliations clashed in Kattandkudi on Friday, marking the most serious violent incident since the conclusion of Monday’s elections, police and independent polls observers said.

The incident sparked-off during celebrations, following the announcement of a defeated candidate being named on the UPFA National List, said Keerthi Tenakoon of the Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE). He added that six persons have already been arrested in this connection, while there has also been damage to property belonging to both sides.

Meanwhile, in Kurunegala, two people were injured when they were allegedly attacked by UNP supporters. Four suspects have been arrested, police said.
