Meeting up through an app

There really is an app for everything-including one for finding your next date. Tinder (very simply) uses your location and Facebook user information to find and match your profile with other interested people in the area. The app was introduced in 2012 to college campuses in the US-its rapid popularity led to the app being developed as a more mainstream model. Today, an estimated 50 million people use Tinder every month with an average of 12 million matches per day.

In Sri Lanka too the app is slowly gaining popularity. In a country where not too long ago the desirable way to meet your partner was through your parents, Tinder has the potential to change how we approach relationships and even how we communicate with people.
In this week’s Pollcat we asked people if they use/or would consider using the app Tinder to meet someone-here’s what they said:

“It’s a very new concept and it kind of scares me to be honest but that also makes it exciting.”
“I tried once and got like 4 matches-but then when I checked it didn’t show any people?!”
“I know this makes me sound about 60, but this is the first time I’m hearing about this!”
“I still prefer the good old fashioned way of meeting people.”

“People meet people on Facebook and at random parties-so why not (on an app)?”
