The 15th Annual Academic Sessions of the Sri Lanka Heart Association with the theme ‘Appropriate, Affordable and Accessible Emergency Cardiac Care For All’ will be held on July 16, 17 and 18 at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel in Colombo.

“The full curriculum covered will ensure that our participants will be updated to ‘state of the art’ knowledge by world-renowned experts and thus be better equipped to deliver high quality care at our health institutions,” states the association’s President Dr. Ruvan A.I. Ekanayaka.
The Dr. G.R. Handy Memorial Oration on ‘The Story of Brugada Syndrome’ will be delivered by Prof. P. Brugada, Chairman and Scientific Director, Cardiovascular Division. Free University of Brussels (UZ Brussel), Belgium.

Reiterating that the Sri Lanka Heart Association has not forgotten that the full benefit of scientific advances must actually reach the population at large to be of real benefit to national health, Dr. Ekanayaka points out that they have launched the ‘Appropriate, Affordable and Accessible’ programme for Emergency Cardiac Care to save lives and prevent cardiac disabilities amongst the less-privileged.
“The groundwork for the ‘Appropriate, Affordable and Accessible’ programme will be laid this year and bear fruit, we hope, in a short time,” he adds.

The programme highlights of the sessions include: Metabolic defects and the heart; Advances in acute coronary syndromes; Advanced imaging techniques; Progress in managing valvular lesions and congenital defects; Heart failure management; Current problems in cardiac surgery; Therapeutics of hypertension; Advances in arrhythmology; Management of pulmonary hypertension; Current debate on stents; Update on coronary interventions; and Cardiac critical care.
