Ranaviru Commemorative Parade in Matara on Tuesday

The ‘Ranaviru Commemorative Parade’, the National Commemoration Ceremony for war heroes, will be held in Matara under the patronage of President Sirisena, on Tuesday (19).
The event will showcase a special segment of retired officers participating for the first time.

“This ceremony is to honour war heroes who sacrificed their lives for the sovereignty of the Nation,” said Military Spokesman Brigadier K.J. Jayaweera.
He added that, 3,255 personnel from the Army, 1,615 from the Navy, 116 from the Air Force, 959 from the Police and 559 from the Civil Defence will participate in the parade.
Army Commander Lt Gen Crishanthe De Silva, along with a few officials, visited Matara on Friday (15), to inspect rehearsals for the forthcoming ceremony, the Spokesperson added.
