Envoys of Switzerland, Bahrain and Croatia held discussions with the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce recently to find out ways and means of exploring trade, tourism and investment opportunities between their countries and Sri Lanka.

Croatian envoy Amir Muhareni, representing most South Asian countries, was the first to have discussions during which he explained the 500 million strong EU market, which Sri Lanka can focus via Croatia, according to a chamber media release.

He invited the Sri Lankan companies to build partnerships or joint ventures with the Croatian firms covering multiple of sectors, in order to tap the EU market.

Thilak De Soyza, former chamber chairman, who is also the Honorary Consular for Croatia in Sri Lanka, chaired this meeting.

Ms. Maram Al-Saleh, Deputy Envoy of Bahrain for Sri Lanka, during her meeting with Mangala P. B. Yapa, CEO / Secretary General of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, expressed interest to find out potential opportunities existing in the country.

Swiss Ambassador Heinz Walker Nedekoorn during his discussions with the chamber said that the European nation is willing to play an increasing role in Sri Lanka’s commercial sector. He said, Swiss investors are waiting to arrive in the island, but are holding back until the current political situation settles down.
