A theatre festival featuring an ever popular translation and original plays will go on the boards at 3.30 pm and 7 pm from May 15 to 17 at the Lionel Wendt theatre Colombo.

The festival starts on May 15 with Henry Jayasena’s “Hunuwataye Kathawa” which was based on Bertolt Brecht’s internationally renowned ‘Caucasian Chalk Circle” Simon Nawagaththegama’s ‘Suba Saha Yasa’ on May 16 and the award winning play of young playwright Chamila Priyanka’s ‘Meya Thuwakkuwak Nove’ on May 17

The play with a well-known cast includes Nalin Pradeep Uduwela, Ruvini Manamperi, Prasannajith Abeysooriya, Nimal Jayasignhe, Indika Ferdinando, Niluka Rajamanthri, Lalith Janakantha and Chamika Hathiahawatte. Refined with Shelton Premarathne’s melodious music, the translation and direction of this play is by late Henry Jayasena.

A hilarious focus on a deadly mistake by a king by switching roles of him and his guard who resembles his outlook ‘Suba Saha Yasa’ is a comedy with a serious touch on kings and their decisions.

The cast includes Sriyantha Mendis, Nihal Fernando, Kusum Renu, Kumara Thirimadura, Wasantha Wittachchi, Samadara Ariyawansa, Amaradasa Thalgahagoda, Thiwanka Nayomi, Rathna D. Nambuge, Upul Mahanama, Premakumara Dassanayake and Sujeewa Priyalal.
The festval is organised by Jude Srimal and tickets are available at Lionel Wendt Theatre. All Seats have been Box planned.
