My brother

My brother’s name is Yenul Ratnayake. He is six months old. He was born on September 4, 2014. He is very cute. Now, he is a little big and rolls over his play-mat. I play with him whenever I get some free time. He cries loudly when he is hungry, upset or angry. What he mostly does is smile and make funny noises. It is hard to make him sleep at night too.

Yenul has a collection of baby toys which are his favourites. He likes bright colours, stripes amd gardens. Now he has a wooden cot which has soft pillows and a pink net. He likes my father more than us.

These days he shouts loudly especially when he is happy. Yenul has his very own blue bathtub and bathing cup. He even smiles when we take pictures of him. When he is having a bath, he splashes water everywhere!
When it’s time for him to sleep, he likes to play instead. We all make him laugh. When he cries madly, the best place for him to calm down is the garden.
I love him very much.

The earth and space
There are eight planets in the
Solar System and they are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. In the early days, Pluto was considered as a planet but now scientists say that Pluto is not a planet and instead
they have named it as a dwarf planet.
Earth is the third planet from the Sun in the Solar System. Humans and animals live on Earth and do not live on other planets. There is gravity on Earth. Gravity is the force that attracts a body towards the centre of the Earth or towards a physical body having mass.
Water covers 70% of the Earth’s surface. When the astronauts first went into space, they looked back at our Earth and they called it the Blue Planet because 70% of our Earth is covered with the oceans.

A soap opera I’ve heard of

I have heard of many soap operas; but my favourite is called Coronation Street. It is the UK’s longest running TV show, airing since December 9, 1960. It focuses on middle-class, working-class families – namely the Barlows; the Alahans; the Websters; the Platts; the Turners; the Dobbses; the Tinkers; the Sutherlands; the Stapes; the Connors; the Soames; the Heaths; the McIntyres; the McDonalds and the Windasses; all who live on the Street and their sister streets, in a town called Weatherfield.
The show’s longest running character is Ken Barlow – appearing since the very first episode, to this day. The street has many houses and businesses – but the most popular one of them all is a public house called the Rovers Return Inn – better known as the Rovers.
I want to be a Coronation Street actor when I grow up.

An autobiography of a pencil

I was born in a big Indian factory. My name is Nataraj-621-Ruby-HB-India. In this factory, I had hundreds of friends. One day, my friends and I were put inside a large box. We travelled to a very big, beautiful shop. There I met a lot of new friends. Some of them were pens, erasers, sharpeners and rulers. Everyone was lucky to get an owner. I thought that I was very unlucky to lose an owner but after a week my luck changed.

A boy named Bhashika bought me. He looked after me well. Every morning he put me into his pencil case. He took me to his school. He used me to write his student notes nicely. When he used me to write notes, I worked very hard. After a few days, everyone started to appreciate me. They all started to buy the same brand of my friends. I met some other brand pencils. Their names were Maped-721-HB American pencils. Their lines are very dark.
When my tip was broken my owner used to sharpen me. Unknowingly, after a few weeks I became very short and my owner didn’t use me anymore. Now he will buy another pencil. I realized that the long journey I travelled was very difficult. So the life of a pencil is a very risky task.

My pet
He is black, brown and white,
With a round and curly tail,
He is ready to jump and bite,
The postman who brings the mail.

Mom brought him home from the road,
Dad got mad and began to scold,
But soon he found his way,
To steal my dad’s heart away.

He is innocent, cute and fun,
And likes to chase me and run,
He makes my day like the morning sun,
He is my pet dog Don Bradman.

How to protect our environment
What is the environment? Environment is where there are trees, flowers, fruit plants, vegetable plants and other plants. From the environment we get many things such as medicine, fruits and vegetables and hard wood. And the environment gives us oxygen to breathe and we give carbon dioxide. Environment is a home to the animals. It gives us shade. In the environment there are waterfalls, mountains, rainforests and rivers.

Many people throw garbage, cut trees, make big noises, and pollute the air. They also pollute by the smoke of the vehicles and clearing parts of the environment to make buildings, factories, roads and houses. They put plastic things, broken glass and choke boards that can harm animals. Also some people put burnt cigarettes to the dry grass that can cause a fire. So we should not make the environment dirty, it can harm us.

We can protect the environment by putting the litter to the right place without burning plastic things that can pollute the air. We can keep the environment clean by planting trees and beautiful flowers and by making a pond.
Environment is a beautiful place. So please we must try to protect our environment.

Our annual trip
On Thursday 26 morning, we came to school at 6.30 a.m., We said a prayer and got into the bus. After a while we started singing songs.
At about 8 a.m., we entered the Lakspray factory in Welisara. Inside, it was very cold and slippery. They gave us an Ambawela yoghurt, a Daily milk, a Happy Cow cheese and a cup of fresh milk. Then we went to the bus to go to Kelani Viharaya.
On the way, we got a great experience. It was that Jesus saved us from a train accident.
In the Kelani Viharaya, I kept some flowers and bought a beautiful pink coloured pencil case. After that we went to Water World. There were lots of fish like electric eel, jelly fish, rays, seahorses, star fish, sea anemones, cat fish and a kind of fish with no eyes.
I was really excited that there was a fish without eyes. It happens like this. In a river that fish have been trapped in a cave, where it was very dark for a very long time. When they come out, they haven’t got eyes because there isn’t a use of eyes in the dark.
Then we went to the bird park. I learnt so much about birds and fish. Then we got into the bus and went to school.

The communication of information
The communication is an act of exchanging information, news, ideas etc. We have different methods of communication. In early times, people used many methods. They used birds to send letters and drummers called Andabera also as a method of communication.
But nowadays, our world is so different, they build new things, such as TVs, Tabs, books etc. Today, is not like old days, we have many things than the previous years.
