‘Sangeetabimana’ : Classical Music Concert

The ‘Sangeetabimana’, a Classical Music Concert, will go on stage at the Lionel Wendt Theatre, on March 10 at 6.30 p.m. Well-known oriental classical music promoter Visharad Chitral Pandita is presenting this concert to an invited audience.

Three renowned Indian musicians are due to perform at this event. Sarathi Chatterjee with a vocal recital, Shilpi Abhisek Lahiri with Sarod recital will surely enthral the audience. For both solo recitals tabla accompaniments will be by Shilpi Abhishek Mishra – a talented tablist from New Delhi, India.

The concert is due to commence with an orchestral performance by a 16-member orchestra conducted by well known senior musician Dr. Somasiri Illesinghe. The original compositions of the three orchestral items are by Dr. Illesinghe. This will be followed by the Sarod Solo and vocal recital.

Dr. Illesinghe served as a producer of music at SLBC and thereafter as the Director of music at Rupavahini Corporation. Dr. Illesinghe is a professional violinist who has performed in Sri Lanka as well as in India. In 2014, he was awarded an Honorary PhD from the University of Visual and Performing Arts.
