Ananda College, Colombo, recently recived library equipment, including bookshelves, worth Rs 100,000, gathered through the sales in Australia of Hudakalawe Avarjana, a book authored by veteran journalist S. Piyasena who is himself an old Anandian.

Rs. 60,000, raised through the sales of this book, was augmented by a further sum of Rs. 40,000 donated by the old boys of Ananda College in Australia.

The ceremony to hand over the library equipment to the school was attended by Mr. Piyasena, and Ranjit Weerasekera who represented the South Wales branch of the Ananda College OBA.

Two distinguished old Anandians, Imtiaz Bakeer Markar and Geetanjana Gunawardena were among the invitees.

Imtiaz Bakeer Markar praised Mr. Piyasena for having “wielded the pen indomitably, like a true Anandian”.

Speaking at the occasion, the principal of Ananda College Kithsiri Liyanage thanked the old boys overseas for being a great source of support to the school.
