Well-known arts and crafts teacher Manel Damage along with her students will hold “Crafts in Action 2015″, an exhibition of arts and crafts at the National Art Gallery on February 21 and 22 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

A past pupil of Museaus girls College, Mrs. Gamage has introduced many new embroidery techniques to Sri Lanka such a “black work, Assisi embroidery, Stump work, Chamakthi work, Chinese appliqué and many other techniques”.

She was trained in Canada, Singapore, England and Australia and has been teaching arts and crafts for more than 20 years. Over 20,000 students from all over Sri Lanka and abroad have gone through her hands. Her lessons on Rupavahini, ITN, Siyatha Tv, Hiru TV and TV Derana and articles in several women’s newspapers namely “Tharuni, Diyaniya and Navaliya are widely watched and read. She has published thirteen books in different embroidery techniques which enable women to learn embroidery from the very beginning without the aid of a teacher.
Each exhibit at the exhibition has its own stamp with a well blended colour scheme which she is known for.

The exhibition aims to give her students a chance to display their work and talent and would help women who are interested in this field, and women who would like to be self-employed, to see the potential in embroidery.

For more information about her TV programme and her new designs, visit her Facebook page-”Manel Gamage Academy of Arts and Crafts”.
