My nephew
My nephew’s name is
Reyhaan Yoonus Abdul Ghani.
He is three months old. He is cute and chubby. Reyhaan doesn’t like pampers. When he cries I feel
sorry for him. He doesn’t like
himself getting wrapped in blankets. He was born in Ninewells Hospital.
Reyhaan likes the rattle. He takes selfies with me and my sisters. I tell him to become big soon so I can play with him. When I talk to him he smiles.
I hope that Reyhaan goes to the best school in Sri Lanka. I love my nephew a lot.

My hobby
My hobby is reading. I read storybooks, magazines, newspapers and any kind of material that I find interesting.
This hobby got started when I was a
little boy. I always wanted my parents to read fairytales and other stories to me. Soon they got fed up and tired of reading stories for me. I started with simple ABC books. Soon I could read simple fairytales and other stories.
Reading enables me to learn about so many things that I would otherwise never come to know. I learned about the wonders of the world, space travel, human achievements, gigantic whales, tiny viruses and other fascinating things of our world.
The wonderful thing about reading is that I do not have to learn things the hard way. For example, I do not have to catch a disease to know that it can kill me. I know the danger so I can avoid it.
Books provide the reader with so much information and facts. They have certainly helped me in my daily life. I am better equipped to cope with living. Otherwise, I would go about ignorantly, learning things the hard way.

My favourite game
My favourite game is badminton.
We need a shuttlecock, a net and two or four rackets to play this game in a court.
Badminton is an indoor game. This game is included in many sports competitions as an event. Either two or four players can play at a time. To start the game, one player has to serve. The other player, on the opposite side of the court has to hit the shuttlecock hard, to pass it over the net. If any player misses the passing
shuttlecock and if it happens to fall down on ground inside the court, the other player will score a point.
I want to be a clever badminton player one day.

A healthy mind
Every human being in the world needs a healthy body and mind. Eating good food, having a balanced diet, exercising, taking regular rest and having a relaxed mind, makes a healthy body and mind. A balanced diet includes the required amount of nutrients, vitamins, fat, proteins and carbohydrates. Balancing these without exceeding one variety like fatty food is very important for a healthy body.

This can be done by avoiding junk food and fast foo Exercising is needed to burn the excess calories. Walking, running and jogging makes our organs function well. Mental health is also important to live a good life. Meditation and rest are needed to save us from mental stress. The mind controls our feelings so in order to live a happy life a healthy mind is vital. Patience is the key to good mental health.
A healthy mind and a healthy body will help you to have a happy life.

Exhibition
We were counting the days for our exhibition which was held on June 26, 2014. We had to make a greenhouse full of fresh plants. We started to grow plants in March. One should grow at least five plants.
On June 25 we started to decorate the main hall. We finished all the work at
7 p.m., with the help of the parents and children who worked so hard.
We finished the greenhouse.
On June 26, when we came to school we were surprised to see a huge forest in the hall. It was full of many plants –
medicinal plants, colourful plants, flower plants, aquatic plants etc.
There were fish and two parrots too.
We enjoyed our exhibition by selling plants and watching the beauty of the greenhouse full of plants and a few
animals. We enjoyed the fish tanks of Grade Six and another greenhouse of Grade Eight. But our greenhouse was considered the best of all three. On the next day, all the children of our class started cleaning the main hall full of happiness.

Drug Menace – Let’s beat it
The drug menace has become a
burning problem in Sri Lanka today. The number of drug addicts are
increasing day by day.
As described by psychologists, drug addiction is a state of indiscriminate use of drugs on a large scale. Some commonly used drugs are heroine, cocaine and LSD. Out of these, people are mostly addicted to heroine.
Drug menace is spreading so fast that not only adults but also children are addicted to them. A majority of crimes are related to drugs.
The users don’t often realize the harmful side of drug abuse.

Nowadays, people involved in drug transport (traffickers) are brought to book and severely
punished.
Drug addicts and traffickers are a problem to society. However in my opinion, the government alone cannot solve this problem. All social organizations, educationists and
religious teachers too should extend their cooperation towards the
government to eradicate this menace. Then only we can solve this problem and make our country a beautiful place to live in.

Project
As soon as our monthly tests
finished, our class sir Mr. Indika told us to decide our project topics. Our class had different topics like Second World War, Ayurveda, while I had a very different topic. It’s ‘Popular People Around the World.’
First we decided the contents.
It’s a job like taking a drop of water from the ocean. I think you may have heard of famous footballers, volleyballers, basketballers, lugers and of course swimmers. If you can’t remember I’ll tell you one from each. Neymar, Thiago,
Shaquille, Alex and Phelps.
They are very popular for their respective sports
Then as actors and actresses we chose three very famous

teledramas. They are Boys Over Flowers, Full House and
Carnation. For musicians we took Lady Gaga, One Direction etc.
Then I downloaded information and wrote them on papers. I
downloaded pictures, printed and pasted them. Everything finished. Our team members in this project are Rithnal (David), Pawan (wind) and myself.
Then the project showcasing day came. Can you guess who is our guest? Believe me, she’s Deepika Singh (Swapna). As for
entertainment, we had a quiz. I think we had a wonderful showcasing day.
