Sri Lanka Tourism along with the Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators and the Tourist Hotels Association of Sri Lanka organised a 24-hour call centre in Colombo for the benefit of tourists in case of a crisis during Thursday’s election and after.

In its latest travel advisory, the British High Commission in Colombo said that the call centre, in force between January 6 and 10, is “as a precautionary measure to safeguard tourists in the event of any disturbances or road closures”.

It said the call centre was located at the Sri Lanka Tourism Travel Information Centre in Colombo (opposite the Cinnamon Grand Hotel) and the contact numbers are 1912 (local) or +94 112 380 680 (international).

The advisory had also advised British citizens to be alert in view of the January 8 presidential elections and avoid any political gatherings.
