The annual Dinner Dance of the Retired Air Force Officers’ Association was held last week at the Galadari Hotel emerged as an extraordinary night in which every moment was filled with action.

Something was happening all the time, leaving no room whatsoever for dead air. This event proved, beyond a shadow of doubt that the success of an occasion of this nature revolves around the Master of Ceremonies who is the pivotal axis around which everything hangs.

Compere, Vijaya Corea, signalled unequivocally that he was yet the number one dance compere. As every session concluded he was on the ball with amazing slickness and punch sandwiched with great humour.

The bands, ‘Fire’ and ‘Heat’, as their very titles suggest, were extremely complimentary. The Air Force Dance Troupe kept those present enthralled with their exquisite dress and most impressive performances. The night was further enriched by the diverse vocal expressions of Rukshan Perera and Janaka Palapathwala, who kept the dance floor moving with their unique renderings of songs that were perennial favourites.

The Chairman of the Dance Committee, Wing Commander Retd., (SLAF) Nalin Jayetileke and his team certainly exhibited their organizational skills at this event.
