CASL Students Gavel Club hosts 4th Officer Installation Ceremony

The Chartered Accountants Sri Lanka (CASL) Students Gavel Club held its 4th Officer Installation ceremony on October 2, at the CASL auditorium.

The Chief Guest was Toastmasters (TM) International 2nd Vice President, Arunasalam Balraj. The Guest of Honour was CASL President, Arjuna Herath.

The CASL Students Gavel Club, a brainchild of the late Senior Chartered Accountant and TM, Sathivel Sockalingam, was formed in 2011, and is an affiliate of TM International of USA. It is sponsored by CASL. The Club is a platform for CASL students to hone their communication and leadership skills.

The Installation Ceremony was a colourful event with entertainment and inspiring speeches before a large gathering of eminent TMs, CAs and distinguished guests. Event Consultant, TM S. Sockalingam (who sadly passed away on October 5, 2014), along with the Organising Committee, spared no effort to ensure its success.

The Installing Officer was TM Thivanka Jayasinghe and TM Ishani Jayasinghe pinned the badges.

Gavellier Buddhi Pathiraja who was installed as the new President, received the Achiever’s Award for 2013/2014, as well as her ACB certificate from TMI.TM Nihal Rodrigo received an appreciation award from the students for his services as the Mentor.

The following officers were installed by TM Thivanka Jayasinghe, for 2014-2015.

President- Buddhi Pathiraja, VP-Education, Dilrukshana Prasad, VP-Membership, Dananjaya Gamlath VP-Public Relations, Niranjalee Athapatthu, Secretary- Shaluka Jayawardena, Treasurer- Tharindu Ishanka, Sergeant at Arms- Dilruk Dissanayake, Club Counselor- TM Razik Mohammed

In her acceptance speech President Buddhi praised her team of office bearers and outlined her plans for the coming year. The Club would embark on a membership drive and organise more events for its members. She envisaged the forming of Gavel Clubs at CASL centres in the outstations where there was substantial membership. She appealed to employers, especially audit firms, to give some latitude to students who are desirous of attending Gavel Club meetings.
