Importance of sports
There are lots of sports in the world like tennis, badminton, chess, swimming and squash. Some sports are outdoor sports and others are indoor sports. Tennis, badminton, swimming and squash are some of
the outdoor sports. The indoor sports are chess, carom, ludo and many others.

Lots of people like to play games. You get energy from sports.
The importance of sports is getting the team spirit and learning how to accept both winning and losing. It is a fine hobby that gives you a lot of pleasure. Therefore we should engage in sports as much as possible.

Man’s Worst Foe

You create havoc and disruption at will
You find pleasure in seeing
sorrow and hearing cries shrill
You seep past every man’s defense
And then you blind them and cause everyone innumerable grievances
You breed rogues and murderers from many people
And their kindness and goodwill you did cripple
You make a hell out of every Eden
And few people of you have been ridden
Oh anger, won’t you cease?
Everyone you blind, disrupts
others’ peace
You are man’s worst foe indeed
Why won’t you let alone men of all caste and creed?

My favourite toy

My favourite toy is Snowy. He is a small, white, furry polar bear. He is three years old. My father bought him from Arpico for me as a present.
Snowy has two black, beady, shiny eyes and a small black nose. His fur is very soft. He has two white hairs on his head and he is very proud of his hairs. I have lots of fun playing Snowy games with my mother. He lives in the cupboard in my bedroom. Sometimes Snowy is naughty and I have to scold him. I love Snowy very much and I am sure he loves me too.

The day of a farmer
There is a saying, “Even the
farmer is suitable to be the king after washing his mud.”
A day of a farmer is very rough. He wears a sarong and a loin cloth. He keeps his mammoty on his
shoulder and goes to the field early in the morning. He digs the field, tills and ploughs the field. Before these activities, he weeds the field. Next the farmer sows the paddy seeds.

When the little green plants are coming up the farmer is happy. His life is decided on these paddy plants. He watches the paddy plants. He protects the paddy plants like his own children. When the paddy seeds get mature, he orders his children to chase the birds away in order to protect the paddy. There is a scarecrow in the middle of the field. Some birds are scared by the scarecrow. Many  people help the farmer to cut the paddy. The farmer’s wife carries the ambula to them.
The farmer has to face many
challenges. If it is a heavy rain the crops will be destroyed. The farmer wants to educate his children and feed his family. The farmer is an important person in the world.

Memorable train trip

Recently, my family and
I had a train trip. We went to Colombo. We got the
opportunity to sit near
windows. While travelling,
we sang songs. We saw beautiful scenery. We saw stretches of paddy fields. When the train went through tunnels, children were delighted.

Preventing extinction

Extinction means a specific
species dying out. Nowadays many species die due to human activities. Conservation means saving animals from extinction. This is mainly
carried out by charities.
Providing sanctuaries is a way of conservation. Animals are secured. Charities pay people to guard them and pay for the equipment. They need to do the job.
Saving habitats is also a way of conservation. Animals like tigers need a vast area to roam and find enough prey. When buildings, roads

or houses are built, the pieces of land become small. Conservationists work with local people. They find the local people other ways of making money so they don’t need to cut down trees.
Removing predators is another way. You can kill the predators which have a large population. Another way is captive breeding. Animals are sent to breed so that the population increases. The Arabian Oryx was saved this way.

feathers and wings. They have small legs. They can eat and drink. They can fly.
The parrot and the mynah can ‘talk.’ Birds like fruits. They live in jungles.

Thank you to teachers

Teachers are great,
And nice and sweet,
They help us and teach us,
They make us so sweet.
They wish us for
birthdays,
And give us to read,
They give us some
homework,
And give us some treats,
And they always guide us,
And teach us what’s good,
They keep us safe;
as safe as they could.
I think I’ll give a party,
To thank them so well,
They give us so much love,
And help us to be good.
I’ll love them and love them, I will.
