My favourite toy

My favourite toy is a Barbie Doll. Her name is Sally. My mother bought Sally for my fifth birthday. I play with her every day after I do my homework. I like to play with Sally.
Sally has many friends like
Prince Sam, Pooh Bear, Princess Katie, Little Teddy and my puppy Blacky. She likes to stay in the castle with her friends. I sleep with her.
She always smiles. She is beautiful. She is tall and thin.
She is wearing a short pink dress. She has purple boots and a red bag. I sometimes put her red hat on her head. She has straight, golden hair. It is long. It is plaited. I comb her hair every day with her hairbrush. She has brown eyebrows and blue eyes. She has pink lips.
I love Sally a lot.

My beloved cats

Once I had two special cats
I used to give them plenty of pats
They were filled with beauty

But one fine day
God took them away
In such a coincident way
On the very same day

I wept and cried
For my friends who had died I still couldn’t believe
It was too early for them to leave

I lay alone on this day
The anniversary on which they passed away
I would never forget them in any way
As they were the cats I sincerely loved
in every which way

I still miss my cats
although five years have passed
They would remain in the middle of my heart

The clock

The clock is used for measuring time. It tells us, at any moment, the time of day. In olden days, man had
to watch the sun to tell the time.
Then they made the sun-dial. But
this told the time only when the sun was shining. The English King Alfred measured time by burning marked candles. Another way was using the sand-glass or the hour-glass.
But clocks and watches are the best time measures.
A clock is a wonderful machine.
A wound-up spring moves a number of wheels. They move the clock’s hands round the dial or face of the clock.
The round face is marked with
figures for the twelve hours. When we want to know the time we look at the clock.

My pet

I have two pets named Vicky and Flash. They are very precious to me. They are boys and they are twins. My mother presented these cats for my eighth birthday. They have fluffy fur, with cute eyes.
This is my first time having pets. Vicky and Flash are very smart and handsome. We always play with them. I love them so much. I remember ne and a half years old.
My cats always sleep with me at night. When they wake up, they yawn and stretch their legs. When I went to Kandy for a trip, I did not enjoy much because I missed them a lot. They love me so much.

Spend the day with my friend

During my school holidays, I went to my best friend’s house. His name is Gavin. He lives in Kotte.
I went there at around 10.30 a.m. Aunty gave us a drink. We did hide and seek. We watched TV. Aunty gave us a yummy lunch. We ate ice-cream. After lunch we played again.
At around 5.30 p.m., my parents came to pick me. It was the best day I ever had.

My educational trip
My educational tour’s starting time was 4.15 a.m., so I woke up really early and quickly dressed up. Our educational tour was organized by our school. We went to the
highway and in two hours we were in Colombo.
Our first stop was Nittambuwa and then we went to Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage. We fed the elephant babies. Then we went to Kandy to see the Dalada Maligawa. Then we went to Peradeniya Gardens. We ate our lunch at Peradeniya Gardens. We just walked around the gardens for about twenty minutes.

Then we went to see the Lankathilaka Viharaya and then to Gadaladeniya and Embekke.
At Embekke, we saw the wonderful wood carvings. Then we went to see the places we had planned to see.
For our dinner, we went to Vevaldeniya. It took us about
30 minutes to eat. Then we went straight back home. It took us about five hours to get to Matara and it was 12.30 a.m., when we went to our school. The parents were there to take their children back home. My father was there to pick me up and then we went home.

My flower garden
I have a flower garden in front of my house. It is not a large garden because there is little space in front of my house. But I take a lot of interest to make it look large by planting a variety of multi-colours of flowers. When the flowers in the
garden are in bloom the
little garden looks large.
My sister helps me to tend the flower plants. There is a flower that I put in more effort to tend it. But my
sister also took an interest in that flower. My sister and I were quarrelling to touch it. One morning I found the flower was missing. I asked my sister what happened to the flower but she remained silent. A little while later I came to know the reason for her silence. She had plucked it and I saw the flower in her hair. Then my anger faded away.

My pet
My pet is a cat. Its name is Bullet. I named it so because she runs very fast like a bullet.
She has black stripes on a grey coat. Round her throat there are two circular stripes like two necklaces. She has big golden coloured eyes.
At night she sleeps at my Granny’s feet. When she wants to go out, she makes a noise like “mama, mama.” Usually she does not like any other cat. When I study, she climbs onto my table and plays with me.
She stretches her front legs, keeps her head down and worships the Buddha, Granny, my mother and me. She never forgets to go to the shrine room at
6 p.m., in the
evening, when Granny lights the lamp.
She
understands when we speak to her and is very obedient.
She loves us and we love her.

Attractive forest resource
Among the resources in the world, the forest resource gets an important place. Sinharaja rainforest and Congo forest are very important among
forests. The forest resource is very useful to human beings. So we can consider the forest resource as a
special gift given to us by Mother Nature.
There are various species of
animals, huge trees, small canals, long creepers, attractive flower plants and small bushes in the forest resource. There are a lot of endemic plants in the forests. The trees
provide us shade, food, water and oxygen to breathe. Forests maintain the temperature at a correct state while protecting the water cycle.
There is wonderful bio-diversity in the forests. This great bio-diversity will be destroyed if we destroy the
forests. So we must protect the
attractive forest resource. It is our responsibility as well as duty.
