In honour of World Children’s Day, ‘First Art’, Art Foundation for Children, is holding its third art  exhibition from September 27 to October 1, 2014, at the Kegalle Town Hall. Five-hundred paintings on the theme Biodiversity will be displayed by hundred children from 4 – 14 years, who have participated and been assessed in national and  international competitions.

The aim of this exhibition is to provide an opportunity for rural children to showcase their  talents and encourage them to engage in the arts. Established in 2003, ‘First Art’ is located in Kaudugama, a scenic village in Kegalle.

It provides facilities for  100 children to be educated in the field of art. The students are taught by Nilanthi Weerasekara, who has degree in Fine Arts from the Delhi University and the University of Performing Arts in Colombo and  R.P. Abeyratne, also a graduate from the University of Performing Arts.

Apart from the art classes, First Art also conducts workshops on other subjects such as singing,  dancing, drama as well as social service and religious  activities, with the aim of preserving the nation’s cultural heritage and  promoting it among the younger generation.
