Brochure launch commemorates Indian Independence

The Indian High Commission launched a brochure “India and Sri Lanka- A Partnership that Transcends Time” at the Taj Samudra Hotel last week in the presence of the Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa. The launch also commemorated the 68th Independence of India.

“The brochure was published to strengthen the extensive bonds India has had with Sri Lanka since ancient times. It gives details of all the Development Cooperation Partnership projects that India has undertaken in Sri Lanka, what has already been completed as well as what we are hoping to do in the near future,” the High Commissioner of India in Sri Lanka, Y. K. Sinha said.

He noted the many different projects that are being conducted in the post war areas including providing medicine and livelihood and the latest housing projects. 17, 000 houses have been completed already and they are hoping to reach the 27,000 mark by the end of this year.

“The Handicrafts Village in Hambantota too is nearing completion and will be handed over to the public soon,” the High Commissioner said.

Representatives of Ministries, other government officials, representative of the five Indian banks operating in Sri Lanka as well as other Indian nationals conducting business in Sri Lanka were also present at the event.
