Asoka Weeraratna – 15th death anniversary commemoration
View(s):The German Dharmaduta Society and the Mitirigala Nissarana Vanaya Sanrakshana Mandalaya will jointly commemorate the 15th death anniversary of Asoka Weeraratna (Ven. Mitirigala Dhammanisanthi Thera), the founder of the German Dharmaduta Society, Berlin Vihara and the Mitirigala Nissarana Vanaya (Forest Hermitage) at a pinkama to be held at the Mitirigala Forest Hermitage on Sunday, August 17 from 2 – 4 p.m.
A special feature of the function will be the declaring open of a newly constructed solar rooftop system with a capacity to generate power that has been installed at the new building complex situated at the entrance to the Forest Hermitage. The eco friendly solar powered lighting system will illuminate the new buildings while at the same time easing the burden of high operational costs in obtaining conventional electricity. The solar panels were purchased from contributions made by two generous individuals -Janaka Wijesinghe and G. Weber. The project was co-ordinated by Tissa Weeraratna of Das Buddhistische Haus (Berlin Vihara) in cooperation with the German Dharmaduta Society, based in Colombo.
Leading monks from the Mitirigala Nissarana Vanaya Aranya, namely Ven. U. Dhammajiva Maha Thero, the Chief Preceptor, and Ven. Dhammaranci Thero will deliver anusasanas on this occasion. Dr. Manel Lakdivdas (President, GDS), Senaka Weeraratna (Hony. Secretary, GDS), D.Ananda de Silva (Hony.Assistant Secretary, GDS), Professor Jayasiri Lankage (Committee Member, GDS) and Hemantha Ranavaka (Hony. Secretary, Mitirigala Nissarana Vanaya Sanrakshana Mandalaya) will also address the gathering.
