BOC Ran Kekulu, the bank’s main children’s savings account, is offering 2000 scholarships – each worth of Rs.10,000 – for highly successful students at the year 5 scholarship examination 2014.

As part of the bank’s CSR, it conducts this annual programme to support and encourage school children to make an extra effort in their studies. “Simply maintaining a minimum balance of Rs.2500 in a Ran Kekulu account on or before the date of the scholarship examination, which falls on August 17, fulfills the eligibility to be considered for BOC Ran Kekulu scholarship,” the bank said in a media release.

The bank also conducts the Hapana programme islandwide to coach students for the Year 5 scholarship examination, in collaboration with the Education Ministry.

The release said the bank maintains over 4,000 “Ran Kekulu School Sansadha” (school savings units) in selected schools covering all parts of the country. These units are managed by the students themselves with the help of the nearest BOC branch.
