Good Manners
A person’s behavior says a lot about him or her. A well-mannered person is liked by all, whereas an ill-mannered person is not. Good manners are nothing more than being kind, polite and considerate to others. It simply means that we should be respectful of the people around us and of our environment.
Good manners reveal a person’s breeding. They speak not only about his or her family because it is at home that we acquire most of our habits. Children always copy the behavior of their parents and elders.
We should always try to be kind and polite to everyone. It is important to listen when the other person is speaking. Littering on the road, spitting in public, playing loud music in cars and homes etc., are all examples of bad manners. A truly educated person will always be well-mannered. But simple going to a big or good school does not mean that one will acquire good manners.

How I spent my holiday
During the school vacation, my family planned to go on a trip to Nuwara Eliya along with my relatives. I was overjoyed at hearing this great news.
We started our journey at 4 in the morning on April 15. On our way we visited Horton Plains. It is a protected area in the Central Highlands which is famous for its biodiversity. It is a popular tourist attraction with World’s End being a key destination. After World’s End, we went to see Bakers Falls. It is one of the most beautiful places in Horton Plains. The water was cool and refreshing. Then it was time to go to the bungalow and rest.

The next day we went to Gregory Lake where we had new adventures. We went on boat rides and pony rides. I enjoyed all this, a lot. Jet-skiing and rafting was the best of all. There were beautiful flowers in Haggala Gardens. Little by little we knew that our holiday was going to be over.
On the 17th morning we got ready to come home. It was a very good experience that made all of us see the need to be  eco-friendly, after seeing the beauty of that place.

Our environment

Our environment includes the things around us such as trees, plants, animals, houses, buildings, people, air, sun etc. Our environment is made up of natural resources. It is a gift from Nature.
We must keep our surroundings clean and tidy. We must not pollute the environment and not harm any animals.
Do not cut down trees. If you do, then plant a new tree. I love my environment. It is very beautiful.

My favourite football player

My favourite football player is Didier Drogba. His full name is Didier Yves Drogba Tebily. He was born in Abidjan, Co´te d’ Ivoire (Ivory Coast) on March 11, 1978.
Drogba began his career as a junior player at the club ‘Levollois’ and was a prolific scorer. He is best known for his career at Chelsea and he has scored more goals than any other foreign player. He is Chelsea’s fourth highest goal scorer. Drogba  moved to Chelsea in 2004 for  24 million pounds, making him the most expensive Ivorian player in history. While he was at Chelsea, he became the first African to score 100 goals in one Premier League Club. He also won two ‘Golden Boot’ awards in the Premier League.

Drogba played a key role in helping the Ivory Coast reach their first World Cup final in 2006. In January 2007, he was crowned the Ivorian Player of the Year and in March 2007 he was named the African Footballer of the Year. He carried the Olympic Flame during the London 2012 Olympics. In June 2013, he joined the Chinese Super League side ‘Shanghai Shenhua’.

He is well known for his physical strength and to retain possession of the ball. A strong finisher, who can use both feet Didier Drogba has earned worldwide recognition as a professional football player.
I admire him as a great football player.

My car
My car is white.
It is bright. It runs like a shooting star in the night.
It has three orange lights.
When there are lots of people, it becomes tight.
So they fight.
Be careful, it might bite!

My favourite newspaper
My favourite newspaper is Funday Times. I love to read it every weekend. My grandfather brings the Sunday Times  newspaper, and I’m the first to read the Funday Times. I’m very fond of reading ‘cause I started reading the Funday Times.

I always participate in so many competitions and I’ve already won gifts. Even my sisters love reading the Funday Times. The articles which come in ‘Kids’ World’ are very interesting to read.

I learn so many things in the History page. If we send for competitions and lose, still we never lose hope. Instead we keep on sending more and more. I enjoy the jokes that come in the paper. The activities that come in ‘Language Corner’ helps me to learn English.
My sisters who are suitable for the age group in the last page ‘Win-Win-Win’ love sending for it. I will never stop reading my favourite paper.

My favourite TV programme
My favourite TV programme is ‘Atapattama’. It’s on ITN every Wednesday. As far as I know, it is Sri Lanka’s most
favourite TV programme too. ‘Atapattama’ is a documentary programme. It gives us thrills, fun, enjoyment and education too. Not only that, it helps us for our spiritual development.

It shows a lot of rare matters around us, both local and foreign. Also it has time for  people with different capabilities. The ‘Atapattama’ presenter ‘Dadibidis’ or Hasantha is very clever at doing it. The language he uses is very rhythmic, local and entertaining. He plays the biggest part in this programme. I normally don’t miss it along with my family members.

If I were a bird
If I were a bird I would enjoy the greatest freedom.
I would fly to every nice place attractive to the people.
I would maintain a light body by obtaining the most fresh fruits and grains. I can fly to the highest places that the others can’t reach. I would meet the friends throughout the world (migrant birds). I would live in vivid nests which are made and decorated by myself.
We are considered the most innocent creatures in the
animal world. Most of us are herbivorous and some are
carnivorous or omnivorous. If I were a bird I would have to face lots of risks. For example, some children hit with a
catapult as their hobby. Some people collect my feathers also.
I would be able to sing a nice melody. I would choose singing as my leisure time activity. I wish to protect all my relatives with greatest dedication.
