With Sri Lanka going through a critical stage after three decades of political crises, Section F (Social Sciences) of the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science (SLAAS) is organizing a discussion on a burning issue; “Ethnic Integrity and Challenges in Sri Lanka: Conflict or Harmony? An Intellectual Insight” on July 15 at the main auditorium of the SLAAS.

Three speakers representing three major fields who will make presentations are – Prof. M. U. de Silva – a noted historian; Prof. Asanka Thilakaratne – a renowned Buddhist philosopher, and Athulasiri Samarakoon – a reader in PhD (Politics and International Relations), Jawaharlal Nehru University.

The forum is open for all who are keen on contemporary social issues in Sri Lanka. An official statement from the SLAAS says that though, there are no conflict with terrorists within the Sri Lankan boundary, there are overt and covert conflicts on what has been experienced and also on certain ideologies implanted with the conflict. “Today, we are experiencing some conflicts with Muslims in different localities in the country and the trend is alarming for another social conflict which is unrealistic goal,” it said.
