Metho voices to soar at ‘Fuoco con Grazia’

The choir of Methodist College Colombo, is known internationally for winning a Gold Diploma and a Silver medal at the 1st International Hoi An Choir competition in 2011 and again at the 1st Xinghai International choir competition in Guanzhou China in November 2012 where it was the first ever Sri Lankan choir to win a Platinum. It is the only school choir to be placed 18th in the World Youth Choirs chart.

The choir members are now hard at work for another public performance, ‘Fuoco con Grazia’ to be held on Tuesday, June 10 and Wednesday, June 11 at 7.30 p.m. at the Lionel Wendt theatre. Directed by Sanjeev Jayaratnam, 65 school girls will let their voices soar under his baton and training. They will be accompanied by Dharshi Edwards (piano), Neranjan de Silva (Organ) and Christopher Prins( drums).

The choristers range in age from 12-year-olds to 19-year-olds and will sing a variety of music from sacred, gospel, jazz, pop, & folk songs. Smaller ensembles will be singing a cappella.

The concert will also feature ‘Metho Cantanti’, the Old Girls choir of the school which is directed by Anagi Perera and Manique Abeyratne.

Tickets priced at Rs. 1000, 750, 500 (Reserved, downstairs) and Rs. 300 (unreserved, balcony) are now on sale at the school office. The Sunday Times, Daily Mirror and Life Online are the print media sponsors for the event.
