3 drunks arrested for assaulting 2 cops
View(s):Three persons were taken into custody after they allegedly beat up two policemen at a location in Wilgamuwa-Matale early yesterday, police said.
They said the alleged incident took place when the two policemen had flagged down the three-wheeler in which the suspects were traveling in.
According to police, the three suspects were highly intoxicated and had assaulted the policemen, apparently, angered at being flagged down.
The two policemen were later moved to Matale Hospital where they are presently undergoing treatment.
The suspects were traced with the assistance of the three-wheeler driver, who is known to the area police, and were to be produced before a local Magistrate later yesterday, police added.
Matale police are conducting further investigations. (LB)
