The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) last week organised a half day familiarisation programme for a group of undergraduates of the University of Sri Jayawardenapura, who are reading for B. Sc. Entrepreneurship special degree at the Department of Entrepreeurship of the University.

Chandrarathna Vithanage from the CCC is seen briefing the undergraduates.

“A degree programme in entrepreneurship aimed at developing undergraduates as aspiring entrepreneurs is a commendable initiative of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura to address un-employability of local graduates and CCC would extend its fullest co-operation to improve their knowledge, skills and attitudes,” the chamber said in a statement.

The visit by the undergraduates was aimed at gaining more knowledge on the business environment of the country and also to gather information on how chambers operate to help businesses.

During their visit, the students were given an overview of how business chambers operate and also a brief description of the CCC and it services, which is the first and the oldest, such organisation in the country.

They were also briefed on the existing business environment in the country and what they should do to explore opportunities and also face challenges in today’s competitive business world, the statement said.

The students, who are into their third year of the degree programme, said that the visit to the chamber and the information gathered during the familiarization programme was highly useful and will help them to develop a “Business Development Plan,” a part of their academic requirements.

“The chamber has been consistently supporting local schools, universities and educational institutes to fine tune their students capacity by enabling such visits, programmes, etc,” said Chandrarathna Vithanage, Senior Assistant Secretary General of the CCC.
