It will hurt our reputation with the IOC but even if we get kicked out from the IOC it won't make a difference because we don't do much at the Olympics anyway. Our athletes won't suffer any more than they are at the moment. Yasith Fernando (Artist)

How bad is the constitutional stalemate

Section Sports

We will hurt our image internationally if things continue this way and we might even be suspended by the IOC. We should sort our issues internally instead of taking them out of the country. Vishwa Rathnayake (Student)

How bad is the constitutional stalemate

Section Sports

I think it will hurt our reputation but these matters have to be discussed and sorted out regardless of how things look. Personally I don't see how the NOC can work on its own agenda without the involvement of the Sports Ministry. Thilina de Silva (IT executive)

How bad is the constitutional stalemate

Section Sports

It has already done immense damage. In the first place a complete mandate should have been taken from all the associations before any of these things should have been reported. Even now these guys are doing things without a majority mandate. This is the death knell for sports in Sri Lanka. Because what we are trying to do is give autonomy to individual sports associations. Eventually the incumbent president will have the power to do what he wants. Suraj Dandeniya (President of the Sri Lanka Badminton Association)

How bad is the constitutional stalemate

Section Sports

This will definitely hurt our reputation with the IOC. If things get worse we will face severe disciplinary action and our poor sportsmen will suffer while the authorities keep arguing. Ravindra Bandara (Student)

How bad is the constitutional stalemate

Section Sports

This will naturally hurt our reputation with the IOC because it is going against what was unanimously agreed upon. It is going back on a pledge made at the highest level. We must revamp intrusive provisions. What the IOC said was loud and clear. Preethi Perera (President of the Kayaking Association)

How bad is the constitutional stalemate

Section Sports

I believe that the issue between the Sports Ministry and the NOC can eventually ruin the image of Sri Lanka and its governing bodies in the eyes of the IOC. I doubt many other countries have this issue with their NOCs so for the Sports Ministry to be making these requests seems to be out of the ordinary and could raise questions as to motives. Malik Hannan (Private sector employee)

How bad is the constitutional stalemate

Section Sports

I think that this issue can give our country a negative image. To a foreign body it would seem that we are incapable of working with each other. Krishan Balaji (Student)

How bad is the constitutional stalemate

Section Sports

The conflict between the NOC and the Ministry of Sports will cast the country in bad light in the eyes of the IOC. The NOC and Ministry are certainly independent bodies but the athletes are under the Ministry of Sports, which means when a conflict arises between the two, the athletes are the ones getting affected by it. Abdul Qadir (Private sector employee)

Citibank celebrates ‘Women’s Multiple Roles’

Section Plus

Having always upheld the strong foundation of gender equality inbuilt into its principles, ethics and values, Citi worldwide celebrates International Women's Day on the platform of 'Citi Women – Connecting Women. Inspiring Change. Making Progress.' This year, on March 18, Citi in Colombo will celebrate women by recognising the multiple roles of women at home, at work and in the community by presenting a portfolio of skills, knowledge and tools that empower women. The evening's programme, moderated by Savithri Rodrigo, is designed to share views, thoughts and ideas in an interactive discussion forum, featuring celebrated experts from diverse fields who will add value to the already multi-tasking lifestyles led by Citi female staff and customers. Discussing challenges faced by women in the corporate environment will be UK qualified and experienced Trainer and Learning Development Consultant, Dinali Bandaranayake Dandeniya, with fifteen years experience in design delivery and evaluation of corporate training. With wide experience in expansive industry areas, she will discuss issues that are commonplace in workplaces, sharing experiences and solutions for some of the challenges that arise. The unique phenomenon of transforming throw away food into delicious cuisine will be unveiled by the two chefs who won the Delicious Waste Contest held at Cinnamon Grand last year. Practical examples will be served up by award winning Nuga Gama Chef Sujith Dissanayake and Banquets Chef DC Dissanayake. This also heralds a new chapter in reducing food wastage and thereby, working on better cost management for household budgets. Celebrated designer behind the label 'Andre Estefan', Stefan Andre Joachim, Partner of the trendy salon Chagall and head of The Design Cafe, will join in with a special guest appearance by the Chagall Team, to present a fresh approach to 'Feeling & Looking Fabulous'. He will add suggestions for a corporate wardrobe in the Sri Lankan context given the diverse events women have to attend. Exciting moments will be added on, with a surprise by Chagall. Given the stress and pressure that women do have to contend with in the fast paced corporate context, Stress Relievers Anytime Anywhere is what accredited Master Trainer from the Australian Institute of Fitness Eli Usma will introduce. Her fifteen years experience spans from Zumba to Pilates to CrossFit compounded by over twenty internationals certifications. A fitness trainer for the national rugby and netball teams, Eli is a lawyer with an MBA, a mother of two and the Co-founder of Entertainers Group and Personal Fitness Solutions. She will offer some practical stress relievers to help women cope in their high pressure roles.
