Defending Singles champions, Chamil Cooray remained unconquerable while Chalani Lakmali lost her form to concede her crown to Joseph Roshita at the 46th National Carrom Championship played at the Carrom Federation of Sri Lanka headquarters in Maharagama. Cooray defended his Men’s Singles title beating rookie finalist Mohamed Shaheed in the final that stretched to a three setter while Roshita took the better of Lakmali, to win the Women’s Singles title in two straight sets.

Though Shaheed won the second set 25-7, he had ran out of ammunitions against the marauding Cooray whose slicing were a feat to watch. After claiming the first set 25-7 and losing the second, Cooray’s fury was unleashed with a smashing 25-0 win in the third set. Shaheed’s progress was eagerly followed by many carrom enthusiasts after he ousted the World Singles champion and former national champion Nishantha Fernando, in three straight sets.
