It was a historic moment for Ladies’ College in its 114 year history when the eighth principal of Ladies’ College, Mrs Eesha Speldewinde, a second generation old girl of the school, was officially installed at a meaningful and moving service of induction at the Chapel of the Hope of the World, on January 10.

The Rt. Revd. Dhiloraj Canagasabey, the 15th Bishop of Colombo, and the former Bishop, the Rt. Revd. Duleep de Chickera officiated along with Archdeacons and other clergy. The Chairman of the Governing Body Dr. Dan Seevaratnam, former principal Mrs Nirmali Wickremesinghe, the manager of the school Dr. Deepthi Attygalle and the principal’s son Andrew Speldewinde were the official witnesses of the proceedings. The new Vice Principal Mrs Deepika Dassanaike was also blessed by the Bishop. The Revd. Charles Jansz delivered a stirring sermon whilst the school choir uplifted the spirit of the occasion. The proceedings were relayed live to the school hall where the school community was able to participate in the celebration.

Members of the governing body, principals of schools, past pupils, parents, students and well-wishers attended this service encompassing a “one family unbroken” spirit sung in the school hymn. Following the service, a period of fellowship ensued where young and old reminisced their ties with their alma mater and renewed bonds with the larger community.
