Chanaka Perera, the leader/bassist of the band Golden Chimes, received the ‘Kala Bhooshana State Award’ at a ceremony on 15 December for the services rendered to the music industry for the past 48 yrs.

He has entered the music field in 1965 with the dance band ‘Beacons’ and later joined Moonstones with Clarence Wijewardene in 1968. He formed the Golden Chimes in 1970 with Clarence, continued the band for the past 43 years under his leadership since 1973 (40 yrs).
