Stepping into model mode
November 30 was an unforgettable night for 30 aspiring young models who took the ramp when Colombo Fashion Week presented “Supermodel Sri Lanka” at the Governor’s Terrace, Mount Lavinia Hotel.
CFW’s main man Ajai Vir Singh described it as an opportunity to invest in young models and a great platform for them to showcase themselves and identify the field of modelling most suitable for them.
The pageant explored the diversity of the profession of modelling, allowing the 30 lucky young men and women to try their hand at print, runway, film and television modelling before taking the ramp for the grand finale. Models Dineth De Silva and Sithmi Gamalath won the Best TV model award, Chanuka Prabuddha, Soha Maryam and Tharaka Wijesingha carried away the Best Film Model award, Shane Pereira and Arandara Suchinthani were adjudged the best in print advertising and Jake Senaratne and Shanika Erangani carried away the award for Best on the runway.
Selected from 260 applicants the final 30 men and women were judged by experts in the fields of fashion and modelling. Ajai Vir Singh; founder of Colombo Fashion Week, Odel chairperson Otara Gunewardene, Fouzul Hameed, CEO of Hameedias, Shalin Balasuriya of SpaCeylon and hair and beauty expert; Ramani Fernando were the judges for the event.
The night saw the models showcasing different collections from beachwear and casual to formal. Brands and designers for the night included Arugam-Bay by Ajai Vir Singh, Stringhopper, Fouzul Hameed and Ramona Oshini. Mini pageants were judged beforehand in the sub categories of best skin, hair, style and photogenic face.

The awards were presented in five categories:
- Best Body: Wimukthi Lakmal and Meliza Gray
- Best Face: Chanuka Prabuddha and Shumaila Musafer
- Most photogenic: Sameera Weerasinghe and Marietta De Fontaine
- Best hair: Tharindu Heshan and Tharaka Wijesingha
- Most Stylish: Manuja De Silva, Rukshani Ranathunga and Sonali Rodrigo
