Lankan barbers come together

Small-time barbers across the country are banding together to form a potent force and fight for their rights, a spokesperson of a new association said.

The Sri Lanka Barbers Association will be launched at the BMICH on Monday with some 200-300 barbers attending with discussions on ways of looking after the interests of some 60,000 barbers across the country.

Members will be made up of small, street-shop barbers, the traditional hair-cutter, and not the upmarket hair salons whose workers are known as either hair dressers or stylists.

Measures will be taken to improve the standards of barbers, provide modern styles of hair cutting and a forum to discuss and find solutions to their problems. A workshop for around 360 barbers will be conducted by a hair stylist from Wahl Corporation of USA.
