Air Force confine Army to barracks
View(s):Sri Lanka Air Force confined the Army to barracks when they inflicted a five goal to two on the latter of the 57th Senior Hockey Nationals that was played at the Astro turf recently. At the short whistle the Airmen led 3-1.
In the 23rd minute of the game, Air Force opened their score when Lahiru Weerasooriya sounded the boards. In the 46th minute, centre half Sameera Perera doubled the score and three minutes later centre forward M. Mohamed made it 3-0 with another field goal.
After the change of ends, Lakshan Nanayakkara made it 4-0 in the 53rd minute and one minute later, Army pulled the Air Force lead back when D.M.R. Jayasekera scored 4-1.
In the 58th minute Air Force extended their lead when Lahiru Weerasooriya made it 5-1 and in the dying minutes of the game D.A. Wijesinghe scored Army’s second goal to make the final score 5-3 to make the final score 5-2 in favour of the Air Force. The game was officiated by H.M.C. Bandara and M. Naushad, while M.F. Laheer was the third umpire.
MHA down Police to win third place
Mercantile Hockey Association downed Police SC by a massive eight goals to three to win the third place final of the 57th Senior National Hockey championship at the Astro turf recently. At the short whistle MHA held a 4-0 lead.
MHA 8 (Upul Fernando 14th, Anju Hewage 15th, 34th and 47th, D. Hettiarachchi 18th and 53rd D.M. Bandara 60th aand 61st minutes) beat Police 2 ( L. Ratnayake 25th, Saman Jayalath 42nd and R.T. Wickramasinghe 49th.).
The game was refereed by Ajith Jayasena and Roshan Hemantha.
