Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga recently visited the Peter Weerasekera Children’s Home  which was inaugurated by her mother Mrs. Sirimavo Bandaranaike 54 years ago. Please help patient who has to undergo brain surgery

B.M.T. Perera, 30, of 141/7, Kohilawatta, Angoda, who suffers from a large Arterio Venous Malformation (AVM) is urgently in need of surgery to prevent a brain haemorrhage. The procedure will cost around Rs. 2.5 million and can be performed at the Central Hospital.

Soulful, sensual jazz from the Netherlands

One of the Netherlands’ greatest saxophonists performed live in Colombo at a sellout concert  presented by the Netherlands Embassy together with the Dutch Burgher Union last week. ‘Yuri Honing Wired Paradise’ at the Dutch Burgher Union saw an evening of soulful sensual jazz full of musical variation, a rare treat for Lankan fans.

Colombo YMCA Carols 2013

The annual Carol Service of the Colombo YMCA will be held on Saturday, December 7 at 6.p.m. at the Race Course (opposite the Royal College Swimming Pool). Leading choirs from schools and churches will participate along with the Army Band. All are welcome.

Fouzul re-elected President of Zahira College OBA

Fouzul Hameed was re-elected unanimously as President of the Zahira College Old Boys’ Association at the 94th Annual General Meeting held on Sunday October 13 at the Desamanya M.T.A. Furkhan Hall.

Addressing the members Mr. Hameed thanked them for the continuous confidence placed on him to lead the organisation. He further said “I invite all old boys of the college to rally round the association in celebrating its centenary.

The OBA has contributed immensely towards the development of the college in taking it to greater heights and we want to continue the momentum. In this regard, we have lined up many programmes during the year and the support of all old boys is vital in achieving the objectives.”

Panel discussion on the ‘Disability Label’

The Rotaract Club of the University of Colombo, Faculty of Arts is organising a panel discussion on the ‘Disability Label’ on December 3 at the Department of Economics Auditorium, Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo. (Room No. 42) from 4.45 p.m. – 7 p.m.

On the panel will be Dr. Samitha Samanmali, who has been a wheelchair user since 2008, Ishan Jallil- Senator in the Sri Lanka Youth Parliament, Youth Activist and Rotaractor who was born blind, Isuru Saminda, a graduate of the Faculty of Science of the University of Colombo who was born with a hearing impairment and Dr. Prathiba Mahanamahewa – Human Rights Commissioner of Sri Lanka.

4th lecture of Ruk Rakaganno seminar series

Seminar 4 in the Ruk Rakaganno seminar series on the present status of the Environment and Future Scenario, titled ‘Law and the Natural Environment’ will be delivered by Ravi Algama, attorney-at-law and co-founder of the Environmental Foundation Ltd.
