Chairman of the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka, Sunil Wijesingha, has been appointed Chairman of the National Development Bank (NDB), among two of the country’s largest development banks, banking sources said on Saturday.

Mr Wijesinha who is already on the NDB Board, takes over from Mr Hemaka Amarasuriya whose term ended this month.
Mr. Wijesinghe is a nominee of the Government which has a sizable stake in the Bank. NDB officials declined to comment on the appointment, but confirmed that Mr Amarasuriya had retired, and a Board meeting was held yesterday (Saturday) to decide the new Chairman, which is a non executive position.

Other Directors on the NDB Board are Ashok Pathirage- Deputy Chairman, Rajendra Theagarajah- Director/CEO), Trevine Jayasekara, Sarath Wikramanayake, Ms Kimarli Fernando, Anura Siriwardena, Ms Chandra Ekanayake, Sujeewa Rajapakse and Ms Indrani Sugathadasa.
