Children’s Day at my school

We celebrated Children’s Day on Tuesday October 1, 2013. My teacher told us on the previous day that there was a surprise for us. We were all excited to be sitting in our classrooms on Tuesday. The teacher walked in and wished all of us a ‘Happy Children’s Day’ and handed all of us a gift from her. Then the school maid walked in with a box full of yummy eclairs for everyone.

Next, we were taken to the school main hall. There we watched a children’s movie called ‘Coming Back’. I enjoyed it very much. My classmates and I spent the rest of the day playing games. It was a very memorable day for me.

My holiday trip to France

My family and I went to France by air. We went with our friends. We first went to a park and to have some fun. Later we went to a hotel called the ‘Four Seasons’. On the right side there was a McDonalds. There was a huge play area. After eating we went to play for some time. There was a big shopping mall too. We did some shopping. After that we had dinner at the hotel. The next day we went to see a beautiful big white church.

The next day we saw the Eiffel Tower and we all spent the whole day in Paris. Th e Eiffel Tower is a wonder of the world. The next day we all spent our time in Disney Land until night.

It was the best holiday we all ever had.

My best friend

My best friend is Andrew Terrace Gaye. He is a fair and short boy. He has brown hair. He goes to Wesley College. He is 12 years old and is in Grade Seven. He lives in Kohuwala. He has one sister and no brothers. He is very clever in his work. His favourite food is Pizza. His favourite drink is Coca Cola. His favourite subjects are English and Science.

Everytime he talks with me. We are in the same class. His hobby is playing rugby and that is his favourite sport. He is a very slim and innocent boy. Though quiet he often cracks jokes and tells interesting stories.

He never lies to me. He writes the lessons that I miss. Both of us try to win by doing our best in studies. When I get sick he comes first. Andrew is not a book worm. He is a wise and smart boy. He offers me good advice. His ambition is to be a pilot.
I wish never to break up our friendship and am proud to have a friend like him. I hope our friendship will last forever.

News

“What happened today? What happened last week?” These are exciting questions that are raised in our minds. There are many answers for these questions and they are changing every day.  But the best answer is News.We can read or listen to the news all over the world. We get news from many modes of media such as newspapers, television, radio etc.

It gives us information about political events, accidents, wars and many other things in our country and around the world. News also give us future and present weather reports.

Before television and radio were invented, newspapers were the main mode of media which gave us world information. Letters were very useful to send personal information to another person. But in ancient time, people exchanged letters using birds and arrows.

News is very useful to us. News is useful to adjust our daily routine and also it improves our knowledge. Sports news is very exciting.

“If you live in this earth, you should always watch or listen to the news. If you don’t, your path will may go wrong.” That is the advice I give the people reading my article today.

My chess tournament

It was an international chess tournament. It was held in the Public Library auditorium in Colombo from August 17 to 21, this year. There were more than 400 participants playing. They were of all age groups. I too participated in it. I played nine games with nine opponents. I got only a few marks but next year I will try to do better and win the game and be a prize winner. I enjoyed the tournament very much.
