My visit to the Roald Dahl Museum | From an overseas club member

For this summer vacation we travelled to Great Britain. We visited various places of interest. One of the places was the Roald Dahl Museum in Great Missenden. I went with my uncle, my father and my sister. The museum was situated in a peaceful and beautiful surrounding.

All houses and shops near the museum were joined, alternately separated by narrow brick path which gave a pleasant Victorian feeling. There were sweet shops, cafes, salons etc. We bought the tickets and the lady gave us a small book that contained activities. The first part of the museum was his school. We tried some of the school clothes they used
to wear. The next one was the solo gallery about Roald Dahl’s RAF experiences.

Roald Dahl had a writing hut where he used to write his stories peacefully. On his table were various trinkets. Every one of them told a story. Also we visited

Miss Honey’s (a character in his book ‘Matilda’) classroom, where we wrote our favourite Roald Dahl book on a paper and decorated it. We got a chance to see his school reports. When we left the museum it felt like stepping out of Roald Dahl’s world.

My trip to Trincomalee

When my parents told me that I would be taken on a trip to Trincomalee, I was so excited and could hardly wait for that day. At last, the day came and we started our journey early morning. On our way we visited a spice garden and the rock temple in Dambulla. The Kantale tank was a beautiful sight.

On reaching Trincomalee, we visited the Navy base which had a museum displaying artillery since ancient times. We were also taken on a boat ride and were able to see the Prima Factory, cement factory and a large passenger ship. The next day we woke up early to take a walk along the golden sandy beach. The sunrise was a breath-taking sight.

We visited the hot wells, the Kinniya Bridge and enjoyed a bath at the Marble Beach. We proceeded through the archway of Fort Frederick to see the Koneswaram Temple. A precipice known as Ravana Vettu could be seen near the temple.

Trincomalee is home to one of the largest natural harbours in the world. The Nilaveli Beach and Pigeon Island attract a lot of
visitors. We were so sad to return home.
