Mihin Lanka, Sri Lanka’s budget carrier, came in for praise recently when it flew all 127 members of two premier Sri Lankan tourism industry bodies to Indonesia and back for their annual meeting.

The Annual General Meeting of the IATA-Sri Lanka and TAASL associations was held in Jakarta, Indonesia where Rizmi Reyal, Chairman-Managing Director of The Traveller Global (Pvt) Ltd, who was appointed President of IATA-Sri Lanka, called for unity and collaboration within the industry in order to promote and develop Sri Lanka.

Having flown Mihin Lanka for the first time to Indonesia for the AGM, Mr. Reyal said he was pleasantly surprised to discover the level of finesse that Mihin Lanka possessed.

The airline was the sponsor of the event. “This journey not only afforded the members of IATA and TAASL to experience Jakarta as a destination but also the opportunity to see for themselves the reality of Mihin Lanka’s superior service and flight,” according to a media release issued by the airline.

Past President of IATA, S. Paramanathan, Chairman, Atlas Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, said he was convinced that Mihin Lanka although a low cost carrier could not be equated to other such carriers in the world as the service levels and comfort levels were exceedingly high and in fact almost on par with regular carriers.

Suresh Mendis, CEO, Classic Travel and President of TAASL, being a relatively regular Mihin Lanka flyer, was mostly impressed with the staff. He stressed the need for Mihin Lanka as the national low cost carrier, and SriLankan Airlines as the aational carrier, to complement each other in their destinations and service.

“For me, Mihin Lanka has a lot of potential. They are consistently flying to the right destinations and offering unprecedented comforts and convenience. Additionally having embarked on their flight with a standard expectation it was a pleasure to experience Mihin Lanka exceeding expectations over and beyond the norm,” he said.

At this silver jubilee AGM, Udaya Nanayakkara, as the founding member, was a special guest whilst Kapila Chandrasena, CEO Mihin Lanka and SriLankan, was the Chief Guest.
