The books were released jointly by the Eastern Province Pre-school Bureau and PLAN Sri Lanka, at an event in Uppodai, where Chief Minister N. Abdul Majeed was the chief guest and PLAN SL’s Resident Representative Edward Nedesbi also graced the occasion.
Although pre-school legislation was proposed by then EPC Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, there were lapses in finalising the books required in this subject.

PLAN SL allocated Rs 10 million for the project.

The books were produced by a committee comprising of university professors and lectures, child specialists, officers of the Education Dept, writers of juvenile literature and experienced primary school teachers. Since the formation of the Pre-school Bureau, 1,763 schools have registered, involving 3,800 teachers, with 58,000 students receiving pre-school education.-Deva Achudan
